Hey all, hopefully you can provide a little advice.

My current rig, well if you can call it that, is ancient... time for an upgrade. My current system is as follows:

Mobo: Asus A8N32-Sli Deluxe

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 x2 4400+

Cooler: Arctic cooling Freezer 7 pro rev.2

Ram: Corsair Value, VS1GB400C3 DDR-400

GPU: BFG Nvidia 8800 GTS 320

HDD: 64Gb SSD - 1TB Storage

PSU: Arctic Pro 850

Case: bog standard Mid Tower ATX

I have recently purchased the cooler in an attempt to squeeze a little more out of it until i get my budget saved up. So ill most likely wait to see what i can afford IB. I’m looking to have £400 to spend replacing the Core system then get a new card a month or two after so I’d have another £200 towards the card.

I have been looking at the current stuff as im not far off having the money saved up and burning a hole in my pocket...

To give you a little information on my thoughts and what im looking for. I have been thinking of making the jump over to Intel as reading the forums and watching a few reviews ive discovered the Bulldozer hasn't lived up to expectations. I am also looking to have a Rig that will have some longevity, being able to drop a better CPU in maybe, a year or so down the road without having to rip the guts out like i have to now. My rigs main use will be for Gaming.

So far I’ve been looking at:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K

Board: Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z Z68

RAM: Corsair 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Vengeance

Cost = £365.94

then getting a new Graphics card a month or two after. What can I say I’m impatient.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Seems pretty good, but I don't get why you go with a microATX board o.O It's a good board though.

You could wait for ivy bridge and then either get a sandy bridge machine or an ivy bridge one, i'm pretty sure SB stuff is going to go pretty cheap when Ivy Bridge drops so

Im surprised Intel is still charging on ahead with Ivybridge after how successful Sandybridge is and how badly AMD Failed with Bulldozer, I kinda figured Intel would ride the Sandy train a little longer. If Ivybridge shows significant improvement over Sandybridge then AMD is really gonna be left in the dust.

I agree with TheOneHalf in that after IB comes out the Price on SB is probably going to drop, and similarly i would expect the price on Nvidia graphics cards to drop a bit after kepler is realeased, that would be my guess at least, although i could be wrong. I personaly am probably going to buy an SB after IB comes out. Best of luck for the upgrade.
