Switching from 7950 to Nvidia?

Hi, i currently have a xfx 7950 which is a great card and runs pretty much everything I need at 1080p and pretty much max settings. I am looking at a possible change to an Nvidia card for streaming to my new Shield tablet. :) Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the most cost effective way to move to an Nvidia card of similar or slightly improved level of performance.

Cheers

I also forgot to mention, I have a fairly specific requirement around size as I have a (big) HTPC case, the 7950 I have is at about the limit of the size I have available...

I guess the best way would be to move to a gtx 780. They're going down in price and it'd be a boost in fps from the 7950.

Well, I don't know how the AMD drivers have evolved but around a year ago the rule of thumb was that a 7950 had similar performance to the 670, which is pretty much the same as a GTX 760 so you'll probably be looking to buy something like a GTX 770 for a small upgrade.

This is a review site though, you'll find plenty of benchmarks on the homepage ;)

Yeah, I would need to have a look at the reviews... Just wondering if there were any thoughts on a financially sensible way to do this?

Not really. I guess you could sell the 7950 (not that second hand AMD cards are worth much due to mining) and buy a second hand 770/780?

Please don't double post, edit instead. What size is the 7950 and how many slots does your HTPC case support?

Apologies for the double post, hopefully fixed that now.

It is a Silverstone GD05, it is more a height issue than anything else. "Support graphic cards up to 11 inches., width restriction-4.92", think the height of the current card is 4.4", that is right at the limit....

If you look at any of the reference cards, the coolers are no higher than the PCI brackets themselves, so they must fit.

Will the new 285 ITX version by sappire fit in your case?

He wants to switch to Nvidia to stream to his shield :)

Thanks Feronix, that makes sense. I think if I stick with a reference type cooler I should be able to fit a 780 in there. Think the 770 seems a little close to what I have to really feel like an "upgrade". Just need to figure out if I can get anything back for the 7950 to offset some of the cost....
