Hey, well I got my x-540s today and so far they rock in MP3s, movies, and MC. They also work fine in CS, but in CS Source, they don't work. I did a listen by ear test and also the integrated audio test. DUring the audio test, the same thing is being put through all the speakers. My matrix mode isn't even on, it doesn't effect it anyways. Any solution to get my CS 5.1 sound working?

All my connections are definitely correct. I'm using RealTek ALC883(Integrated 8 ch. HD)

I tried to help my son configure CS:S sound on an X-Mystique soundcard and it was very frustrating.

If I remember right, whilst trying many options - analogue worked better than digital, and for some options, even though the test appeared not to be working, the sound did surround.

He uses headphones now - not sure if he's tried to configure them for surround.

What headphones are you using?

Do they use a virtual 5.1 sound?

I have yet to find a pair of 5.1 headset that work well in CS:Source apart from the Zalaman Theater 6.

You should just be able to plug them in and set it to 5.1 and away you go, least thats what i do with my Zalmans :/

remember to set your cs speaker settings and windows+driver speaker settings to suit new speakers, make sure you havent forgot about those.

are the wires all hooked up correctly?

Raging.

My cables are properly connected.

CS Sound is set to 5.1

Windows drivers are set properly (just control panel>speaker/sound>5.1 right?)

I'm using analog btw.

Any other suggestions?

Run the simple CS:S Sound test, it will go through each speaker one at a time - if you hear the correct sound from the speaker then its setup right.

I'm assuming this is a OnBoard sound card? I have lots of problems with them on my Zalman Theater 6.

I refuse to use anything thats not a Audigy as thats the only thing that seems to sound right with my 5.1 headset.

I've already run the cs sound test and the sounds come from all the speakers. Now in windows media center the sound comes from all the speakers too. How can I fix this? :(

try settings sv_cheats 1

then snd_digitalsurround or snd_digital_surround (i can't remember which way it is off hand but it will appear) to 1

its not a 'cheat' but they change the command to only be available with sv_cheats on for some stupid reason :(

you can turn off cheats after but see if it helps with your none surround issue

(i'd advise this to all hl2 engine games btw as it improves the sound ALOT for surround sound :))

Alrite I will try that when I reinstall my Source. Anyone know how to fix my Media Center problem?
