Subwoofer repair

So my first set of z5500's that I bought turned out to be shoddy so I sent them in for a new set which worked great....until yesterday. From what I can tell it sounds as though the driver in the subwoofer has detached itself from the cone. I got in touch with Logitech and I must send in my control pod and they will send me a new set.

So my question is this:

Has anyone ever fixed a subwoofer problem like this before? Is there anyway that I could open the sub up and reattach the cone or is the sub pretty much screwed?

Thanks for the help guys

i wouldnt open them up mate as u will void the warranty and then if u dont manage to fix it ur stuck with it like that

Well they only require me to send in the control pod as to "stop my system from functioning" so once they receive the pod they send me a brand new set, leaving me with the broken ones. If I can then manually fix it I could have 2 subs which would be cool as I could put it in my living room

Unless the rubber surrounding the speaker has become detached it sounds like you may have just blown it.

Speakers are really simple things, and the cone afaik is only connected to the bass reflex rubber surrounding the cone. The rest of the speaker relies on a wire-wound tube sitting in the middle of the magnet.

Of course, things may have changed since I last chopped a speaker up.

Could do, but it's not really worth it, you can get a far superior sub for £100 without faffing around trying to fix the one you have.

And yeah sounds blown, probably over-driven too early in it's life, all speakers should have a burn-in period.

@Jim - nah speakers are essentially the same as they always were, hence old ones still sounding awesome ;)

So I cracked the puppy open...have to admit it was pretty cool to actually see how everything inside worked. I had the driver and cone separate from the enclosure and hooked it up to see what was going on. It definitely looks to be blown, I don't know how the hell I managed it considering I had tried to run it gently for the first couple months.

I'll have to definitely baby this new set once I get them. Thanks for the input though guys, always there when I need ya!
