Struggling to find good big monitors!

We have a budget between £300-£600. We are looking at a single monitor set-up but dual monitor setup if we can!

Minimum size we are looking at is 32inch because we are sat a distance away. 42inch is preffered. It seems pretty hard to find such large monitors with good refresh rates, response time and resolution!

Does anyone have any suggestions? cheers

Phillips have released a 40" monitor recently, 4K given the size and naturally expensive.

you won't get a monitor that big without it being just a tv with pc connectivity.

closest thing you have is as Davva2004 said is the 34" 21:9, £659 on overclockers.co.uk

I have convinced my mate to go down to 27inch, will that offer many more options?

He is really keen on the 2560x1440s and good refresh rate

27" 1440p monitors are pretty much standard. So yes you can find a big selection.

Can i ask what it will be used for? Gaming or rendering? You can either get a G-Sync enabled monitor if he has Nvidia or if it's casual gaming/rendering then IPS monitors would be preferred.

Yes he will be going nVidia, these are the specs of his system. It will be a mixture of high end (pushing Arma on ultra) gaming & the occasional CAD designing.

Here are the system specs he will be ordering.
MSI GTX 670
i7 4790k
16GB Corsair Vengeance 2133hz 9CAS

Unfortunately the budget is now £400 so that ASUS G Sync Monitor is a bit out of reach

Save £100 on the CPU, get a 4690k and spend it on the graphics card. You need a strong single card 780/970/290X to run 1440p. If he has a £400 budget for the monitor then a Dell U2715H would be a strong contender.

Sorry mate, I meant MSI GTX 970, not a 670! The 970 along with the complimentary RAM and CPU should handle these games pretty well on 1440p would you agree?

That Dell looks pretty good, response time looks a little slow though doesnt it? 8ms (6ms fast mode)

Won't be too bad. 970 and an i5 would be an awesome combo. I do not know how much vram Arma 3 uses at ultra, but if it is more than 3.5GB of vram you may want to look elsewhere. You can also find 290/290x cards for very cheap these days.. 290x performs better than a 970 would. A 290 would perform about the same as a 970. If he plays a lot of games that prefer AMD.. get a 290/290x. If they prefer Nvidia get a 970.

Are you saying an i5 is preferable to the i7 that my mate is looking at getting? Any reason as to why? He will be sticking with nVidia for sure!

It's preferable because it's £100 cheaper. ;) It's not better, the i7 is just largely unnecessary for gaming.

This. You won't be getting much more out of the i7 for gaming. If he is using CAD often then an i7 would be a decent option. Just means you would need to sacrifice the GPU.. which i wouldn't do that.

Very few games make extra use of the i7. Arma still doesn't make great use of quad cores I believe anyway.
I run arma 3 on ultra everything, 1080p at a decent frame rate. You'll need an amazing beast pc and a empty server to get the same results online. Most of the lower framerates are due to varying factors in multiplayer, especially if you play all that crap like battle royale.
