Firstly this is the 2000th thread on :anisx: so i think that deserves a w00t!!!!! :bornleet: :worship::worship::worship::worship::worship:

Anyway I am considering a kind of HTPC idea, but wanna keep things simple and relatively cost free atm. I am thinking of hooking a freeview box and tv card to the downstairs comp, but am interested in the idea of being able to stream it to my computer over the netowrk. could anybody offer any more advice or info on this?

make sure you have a file transfer thingy set up on your network before u start u wil need that, then u get a program, i hav forgotten what it is called, but it is put on both computers, and it alows programs to be accessed by both computers, then u jsut access the program to watch the telly from your computer, and bingo it works!

AFAIK mate, there is no easy solution to doing this.

What you could do is run an s-video cable from your freeview box to a tv tuner card or video capture card in the back of your rig.

From there, you could then get the video capture software to save the file to MPEG, and use Windows Media Server to stream the mpeg to the rest of the computers on your network.

cheers jim, it was kind of what i was looking for but i was thinking stream to my pc as it is being watched on htpc. this way it wd prob be just as easy to transfer the file to my comp and watch it and bin it rather than setting up windows medi server, thanks for your help tho :)
