Still unsure whether to switch to Intel

If you have the money for a 2500K and a P67 mobo, go for it, you will definietly notice the performance increase and you will have plenty of upgrade options where as the Phenoms are pretty much dead now with BD coming.

Buy a new AM3+ 990fx and wait for bulldozer.

I'm currently using the Sabertooth AM3+ 990fx and its pretty savage, and right when bulldozer comes out I'm going to be running a sweet new 8 core.

Its all personal choice at the end of the day, you can buy a nice intel combo now and see immediate benefits, or you can upgrade your motherboard now to a bit of a beast aka am3+sabretooth, and then wait till bulldozer. The only thing is no one knows yet really how well bulldozer stacks up against intel until its released.

Currently using a AMD 965BE 790gx mobo with 4gb RAM

I could invest in an Intel board and cpu but, is it worth it?

I really wouldn't waste your cash.

You want a 990 Chip set mobo Am3+. You will be able to use all your current hardware and be ready for the bulldozer chips in a few months.

The FX8130p was benched and produced results that riveled the Intel I7 980x. (and there are two higher versions)

AMD's up and coming Bulldozer FX chips are set to wipe the floor with Intel Well so rumour has it :0)

The FX8130P will go on sale Q3 of 2011 for around $320.

I would love to see those rumors. Not much has been released as far as details go, but everything I've seen so far, which isn't much, puts BD on par with Intel. Certainly no floor wiping going on from what I've seen. That would be great to have happen, but I'm extremely doubtful.

If you're not in a rush wait for bulldozer and see how it can preform, then depending on the results you can compare and see whether to upgrade/change to intel etc...

+1

Hmmm - i haven't had that e-mail yet!!! and i am a nextgen dev

people like myself usually get the 'subscription' ASL code sets for future chipsets in advance, so that we can start devving applications that will use the full use of the new chipsets - i only have the interrupt port-mapping for the 990FX.

these are 128-bit instruction calls

the future FULL AM4 will be 256-bit

....

now if you want a real rumour to start, how would you like quad-channel DDR4 for Q1 2012 ???

LGA 2011 doesn't compete with Bulldozer at the same price point as LGA 1155 does. Ivy Bridge however, will be 20% faster than Sandy Bridge, and that will compete with Bulldozer at similar price points.

the 1st phase of BD will be september-ish... later ,more-powerful versions, other than zambezi, will be out at xmas 2011
