Star Citizen Thread

I didn't want anything too serious as the game is just so big and amazing I'd hate to put limits on where people would go.

I'm probably going to get another couple of ships before release because i want to leave some options open to me.

i really like the idea of casual fleet with the possibility of a TS server...

im so happy they're going to allow modding tools for it as well, with the ability to make our own ships etc is going to make this game even better

I'm not massively fussed as I don't really have a ship that is equipped for fighting :P. Probably will still give it a go though.

yh my aurora isnt really specced for dog fighting but i just cant wait to test out the physics of the game and get some practice flying.

if my jet skills on bf3 are anything to go by im going to need the practice hehe

I got my archaic joystick working today, I'm set. I won't be able to fight much but I'll probably just enjoy flying around and stuff in dogfighting.

I've never gotten into the game much but have known about it for a few months now. I would love to invest into the game but i'm pretty confused about how it all works and what ships do what and etc..

Anyone care to give a brief summary? Or a detailed is fine:p

It's quite complicated and I'm crap at explaining things :P. It'll be split into 3 parts:

single player (known as squadron 42)- single player story mode.
persistent world muliplayer (the big online server)- everyone in it, kind of like eve online but less spreadsheets (or more if you want) and first person.
Hostable multiplayer- basically persistent world multiplayer but hosted by you or another party, has mod support and all that good stuff.

In terms of ships if you want to look at the ones you can currently pledge for and I'll or others can answer any questions you have :).

i don't know yet how mod support will work out. you need to host your own server to have the mods, but a private server will most likely not have a lot of players which is what makes the game work.

What do you do in the game, do you go to war? O.o

Or is it just pottering around space...
it's whatever you make of it. war, business, exploration.

its like battlestar galactica, obviously not so dramatic and without the Cylons...

wonder how hardcore this server is gonna need to be to host this

And that is just the star citizen game...
Squadron 42 is a whole other game. I vaguely remember hearing that CIG wanted S42 to be quite a long game...

Yeah, it seems that they'll need to create something that'll make the mods visible without the need to download the entire mod.

Can anyone explain in detail the 3 different parts? The S42/Multi/ and Hostable Multi(whatever the difference is lol)?

I want to pledge but would like to know as much as possible before doing so. Thank you:)

New stuff for the new goal reached:

S42 is basically single player dogfighting and story, kind of like a campaign mode in a shooter.

Multi is basically huge servers running the vanilla version of the game, so trading and everything else is effected by everyone's actions (e.g. blockade a planet that has a large amount of diamond mines, cause prices to increase)

The hostable one is as above but on a smaller scale and will enable you to run mods and all that good stuff.

Sounds awesome! Thanks:)
