Star Citizen now has updated PC system requirements

Also a few things to keep in mind to help it run more smoothly. Do not have too many things open in the background like browser, Email, Various programs etc... anything not important that takes up CPU cycles should be shutdown.

Setting the process priority to High through Task Manager also helps a lot with the general smoothness of the game and for people with 12th/13th/14th gen processors it is advisable to disable the E-Cores, It makes a huge difference to the smoothness of the game and 32GB of ram is highly recommended, You can get away with 16GB but the jump in smoothness going from 16GB to 32GB is night and day.

Couldn't agree more about the ram, I've found over the years that I've been playing on average I was using 24GB of ram whilst in game.

If you need to do all that just to have a good experience, that to me shows lack of optimization and is just inexcusable for a game that does not look cutting edge.

Server meshing is the key tech that will be a literal game changer, No pun intended. In the tests for server meshing that I got to be a part of the performance and smoothness was worlds better, Completely night and day.

Completely agree. Absolutely unacceptable if you need to do such extensive setup in order to have an smooth experience. Especially if you’ve paid for the game, if it was free on the other hand, not much to complain about really.

I dont understand why it takes them so long to do something that many games manage right on out the gate.

We were discussing this very same feature over a year ago, if you remember. Yet we see countless updates on new ships, etc

What puts me off the game though, isnt the bad optimisations. Its the dumb AI logic of the NPCs in stations. walk into a waiting room , and see 12 NPCs clustered in a corner facing a wall, or everyone standing on chairs, seats and desks. Its the biggest "anti" immersion for me.

its almost like a rendered animation thats incomplete, and it failed at the first frame. So thats where they stay indefinately.

The reason it's taken so long is there are soooooooooooo many moving parts in a completely open world. If it was simple like Elite Dangerous for example then it would've been done much sooner.

Same thing with the NPC's and AI, Because everything complex is running on 1 server it's simply too much not just for the software but for the hardware in the server which is where server meshing comes into play, Each thing gets it's own server, Interactables, NPC's, AI, Ships etc... it's honestly night and day but the issue is this technology had to be made and by the looks of it CIG will end up licensing it out once it's fully done as it enables things that would otherwise require a super computer server which is just not feasible.

Playing a bunker mission when the server mesh tests were on was a completely different experience. On the normal server the NPC's were buggy and you could pick them off very easily. On the server meshing tests everything was smooth, NPC's became like rambo and you actually had to put in real effort with team mates to be tactical.

I call bull crap.

All you are talking about is separation of tasks and then syncing the data to one area. This is not some crazy technology.

Add on to that, how do you separate AI and NPCs? Do they require global data to do a local function? If so, that's one API call? The rest is all local logic on client side. Is that specific action server side? Well it's still simple logic. The characters movement or appearance is all client side. Either way how does this require two completely different servers?

I just don't see how it's something innovative. If the problem is it's to bogged down, the solution is either A) throw more hardware at it or b) the programming and/or game design is inefficient.

If it's one server for an entire universe, that's poor game design. This problem was solved a few years ago in UE if I remember right with their zone technology. Idk if it's the same but it's not crazy tech.

Nothing against you, I just call BS from the Devs and Chris.

I can only say what I have experienced in the closed tests and the difference with server meshing is night and day.

If you want to know more there's a fair few videos of server meshing on YouTube.
