SSD's for newbies

Hi lads

Is there anything at all I should be aware of regarding these?

I grabbed one of the ForceGT3's from Aria 60gb for less than £30 but i've never owned a SSD.

Anything I need to do in the BIOS? I know nothing about trim etc

Just make sure that you set the SSD's operating mode to AHCI. If there's a firmware update download that as well. Nothing else you really need to do.

and i think you need to make sure you have TRIM enabled, i think windows7 automatically enables it when you hook up your SSD (i cant remember what i did, but that proves it was very simple lol)

win 7 sometimes enables TRIM. depends on if the vendor list is updated
enough with that drive and firmware. 60Gb is a fair size for win 7. 30gb for OS,
Office and some appz. would deffo suggest a mech HDD for storage of files,
change the cache directories over to the mech drives for SSD longevity and
less work necessary.

i find 120gb to be too small. but eh, if you have 60gb it will be full to the brim nearly all the time. depends if you can deal with that I guess.

Ok lads i've made a mess of my PC now :(

When I installed the OS on the SSD I had my 1tb drive hooked up and now it wont boot, god i'm such an idiot. It hangs when the coloured balls join up during the W7 splash screen, same point every time.

All my games/steam/music is on that drive, but it is partitioned in half so... I could just cut and paste all the important data over and reinstall the OS again...unless there is a way out of it?

My main drive prior to buying the little SSD was a 1.5gb WDBlack so plenty of room for me to move over my files then just reinstall the OS.

:(
