Ssd trim, gc

Hi,
I've been reading a few posts lately about TRIM and its benefits. As far as I understand, that TRIM is not enabled in RAID 0 configuration.

I'am planning to get Samsung 830, but I have seen a reply in one post, says that Intel 520 won't get much benefit from TRIM but Samsung 830 will.

My question is, is it because 520 have active garbage collection, so they do not need it or do they have new technology that others don't.

I also want to know, I leave my computer on idle for a few hours everyday, because 830 does GC when drive is idle, in my situation, will I get much from TRIM, if drive will constantly do GC?

What other benefit there are with TRIM vs GC?

You cant select which it does, its always doing it. You dont have to leave it idle.

You only need to worry about hardware GC when running raid.

TRIM has to be supported by the OS. Garbage Collection is done regardless of the software used and is internal to the SSD.

TRIM is better than GC, but GC is getting better. In a situation where you can use TRIM (RAID), GC is better than nothing.
