SSD Raid 0?

I am going to be build a new system when the Ivy Bridge chips come out. I am now trying to get all of my ducks lined up, I know there used to be TRIM issues with ssds running raid. Currently are there still issues or is running raid on ssds improved since last year?

I will be going with the Corsair Force series GT 120 gb.

SSDs now have something called garbage control (newer ssd) so even though in raid trim wount work, this garbage control process will basically do what trim does but it will work in raid as long as the drive you buy has garbage control so make sure it does!

I did a quick search to see if the corsair force gt had it but I could never confirm it. My guess is that yes it does but can any of you confirm?

If you go to this site, and click on the details tab, under the features heading you will see it does have BGC (background garbage collection).

afaik intel onboard storage controller do support trim in raid, at least when using later RST drivers...

running several intel ssd in RAID 0 for a couple of years now. not a problem, performance is still as out of the box...or almost.

RST is different from a true raid of identical drives. Garbage collection is on most if not all sata6gb SSD's its just part of the firmware for the most part. Garbage Collection or GC only differs from trim in the basic functionality as it works when the drives are idle for a length of time. While trim works as you work the drive. But in essence they do pratically the same thing. I have been running 2 C300 64Gb drives in raid 0 for about a year now with no slow down or performance loss at all. I love how fast it is and i have slower 6GB drives lol. it still blows my mind

if your raiding ssd's I'd assume its for operating system (opsys) you will have to hardware raid it as software raid isnt available til post opsys installation

Thanks mate never made a raid array before so was a bit unsure...can you recommend a raid controller?I was looking at the LSi ones they look good?

EDIT:Sorry I think I have misinterpreted the meaning of hardware raid I assumed hardware raid was using a dedicated raid card when it can be used with onboard controllers e.g. marvell and done through the BIOS and software raid is done with the OS and from within the OS correct?So no need for a dedicated raid card?

correct hardware is done with either a dedicated raid card or the onboard raid controller most if not all current motherboards have. Hell alot of them have 2 onboard controllers for example intel uses the intel chipset for one controller and the either jmicron or marvell for another. refer to mobo book for which sata ports are on each. Best to use the intel chipset raid for ssd's as you may have issues with the marvel controller with some ssd's
