Spend My £80 ?

Hey hey guys and gals.

I have just (for some reason, as yet unknown to me) been given £100, and i'm going to spend £80 or so of it on a new motherboard.

I've been anxiously awaiting the realease of the DFI DK P35 board, but i'm getting itchy feet already and damn tired of waiting.

I've been looking at the Asus series, the P5KC in particular and... I don't really know.

I know the DFI B.I. is excellent, the Gigabyte series are excellent, and random duff boards aside, Asus are excellent. I'm really unsure of which to purchase.

I want to overclock my E6600, and i'm almost certain i want a P35. I don't want/need RAID, SLI, Crossfire, any of that nonsense, just a good board that'll get me to 3Ghz or so with ease, and on air.

Add to that the need to fix the lounge computer with my current motherboard.

I'm sorry for writing ANOTHER "which board to buy" thread, you guys must be sick of it by now...

Anyways so £80ish in hand, what would YOU buy?

Please don't wast your money on a combo board.

The IP35, P5K-E or maybe DFI Blood iron would be the top three to look at imo (in your price bracket).

Can you not just send me the £80 and i'll spend it on beer and women? :D

Where do you think the other £20 is going

Are 'combo' boards no good then?

Why is there so much choice?? Why hasn't the DFI board been released yet?? ARGH!

Because of speed limitations.

The MSI board is one of the best combo boards and I believe and it only supports - Dual channel DDR3 800/1066 x2, the asus only supports DDR3 1333/1066/800.

Since ddr3 is going well past 1800 I'd say its a waste of money.

WOW! I thought I knew cheap women...

Edit: Combo mobos suck. DFI blood iron ftw

Hahah well, the £20's going on me, women can buy their own drinks, no chivalry on my sorta budget

I like the features of the BI, i know it will perform but, it's just so (in my opinion) ugly. Irrelevant i know, but that's just me really, i'd prefer a darker PCB myself...

So combo is bad, understood.

Garish colours aside, how are the Gigabyte boards? And why are there so many variations??

Also, some boards are listed as only P35, and others aer iP35.. What's the significance of the I? anything super important?

I am using a Gigabyte combo board at the moment and it knocks the Asus commando for six. I only got it cheep to keep me going while the ASUS was RMA'd again, but the Asus is going to be sold when i get it back. I am running a Q6600 @ 1.4v/3600MGz 2.5 on the divider.

If you just want to get to 3ghz, my Gigabyte GA-G33M DS2R is doing it no problem, stock cooler and volts.

It's G33 which is the onboard graphics version of P35, but this is hands down the best board I've ever used, and it's Micro ATX, which is a bonus if you wanna do stuff with it lol.

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=605384 Check it out for £66.

The bottom PCI-E slot is open ended, if you ever fancy a bit of crossfire, a 16x card will fit, but run at 4x.

I'm sure fraggles can back me up about this board, the only bad thing about it is no 1:1 divider, but with the latest BIOS, theres a 2.66 Ratio, which is close enough for me and my G.Skills...
