speed up windows

hi.

windows has been running slower and slower and what can be done to get windows up to speed ?

defragged both harddrives.

ran easycleaner to clean out the registry.

checked the AV program and it worked good and had no trouble updating, Grisoft antivirus.

disabled a bunch of processes that doesnt need to be running all the time.

uninstalled unused programs.

its WAY past bedtime but tomorrow i intend to run spyware search&destroy and lavasoft adware

anything else that can be done ?

I normally format and reinstall about every 2-3 months. Most programs don't need to be reinstalled if you put them on a seperate partition. Windows in general just gets bogged down over time.

a reinstall of windows at present time is unthinkable.

im going to delete both partitions i have on my primary harddrive and then create 2 new with different sizes and it will take me atleast 2 weeks before i have went through all the data and made the neccessary backups.

A windows re-install is your best bet imho

But run Xsoftspy, Spybot S&D, Adaware, X2 and the rest to see how they go

I'd also recommend checking for a rootkit with either:

F-Secure Blacklight

Or Rootkit Revealer

But if you do find a rootkit then you'll probably have to reformat anyway.

use windows server 2003 instead of xp, doesnt clog up as easily

think i will stay with xp.

is much faster now so i will manage until i have emptied my primary harddrive.
