Specifications for Intel's Kaby Lake CPUs have leaked

It had better well better be compatible with current Skylake boards....

Been less than a year since a new socket right? Yeah i'd be **** too if they made another one. I think what they should do is keep the same socket for 3 gens, since they are moving to a tick tock tock cycle(or whatever it is) to keep costs down on motherboards and CPUs.. but I can dream

I wouldn't bet on it, Well Kaby Lake might be Z270, which means new motherboards.

I have a feeling with Kaby Lake it will be a whole new motherboard again, This is what intel seems to do now.

This is another reason why i want to go X99 for my next motherboard.

The end of overclocking? You've got to be kidding! Whether it's possible to eke out only another 10MHz or another 2GHz, someone somewhere will do it, and the rest of us will be eagerly watching! :)

If Intel force people into a new board with Zen likely to be around (meaning they need a new board either way) this could be very bad for them. At least if they make them compatible with the existing boards they may get a few sales from existing owners, but yeah, dangerous game to play with Zen on the horizon !

I think the new one is going to be something like Socket 1152 or something like that.

Well if AMD produce the goods they will really regret that. Like I say, if people have to buy a new board then they may as well go Zen, which *should* be cheaper. It's going to have to be if AMD want to sell it (though I am not expecting it to be literally cheap, just cheapER than Intel).

AMD boards part for part have always been cheaper than Intel's (mm, yummy socket tax) so if they can get Zen right and produce a good, well balanced and well priced quad they could really stir up the pot.

This is another reason why i will not be buying another Z series board cause of stuff like this, That's why i'm going X series next time.

Well if AMD can pull it off we will be back to 2004/05 again when AMD had the best CPU's.

I don't think they can pull it off just yet but they should get some what close enough but maybe bye Zen Gen 2 they will be right there which means intel will have to come out with something good or unless for intel it can turn into the Pentium 4.

I think assuming Xen should be cheaper after the price of the Fury's and even the current 480 is a bit optimistic.

They will milk you for as much as possible - like any sensible business would.

Yeah if you jump on X early they last for years. I jumped on X79 late, but to be honest there was nothing it did not offer. I would still have it if MSI weren't crap as well as their return service AND their stock levels.

I remember back in the day you could still buy Core 2 boards for years and years, now with Intel changing sockets all the time manus are ditching the old sockets pronto so if your board dies you're screwed and then at the full mercy of people who do have them and want a king's ransom for them !

That was partially why I went with an Alienware, because at least they keep spare boards to replace with long after they stop selling the PC itself.

Oh I agree, Zen won't be cheap. However, this is an AMD CPU and people just won't pay ridiculous prices for them. That was why after beating Intel with their original FX CPUs they had to wind down and stop competing. It would be dumb to try that again.

So whilst I don't expect Zen to be in any ways cheap they are going to have to offer a decent range and decent prices if they want to actually sell them and not have them sitting in a warehouse.

IMO the Fury X (for what it was and what you got) was cheap. Brand new tech, HBM, water cooled (so virtually silent with no throttling) etc. The only issue was the amount of HBM. That should be fixed with Vega (he says, crossing his fingers).

Zen won't be cheap because it seems so far they are aiming it at the X99 price bracket and performance levels. So they may very well try to price it as such. They 4/6C variants hopefully are more sensible.
