Sony's new DRM featured disks are actually installing spyware on your machine!

The nutshell is this: Sony releases the new Van Zant CD. On the computer, it only plays within its own executable, not via Windows Media Player or any other software. You are allowed to burn three copies of the CD, and then it's done with.

Well thats pretty bad: and thats just the start!

to enforce this DRM, Sony are installing device drivers, DLLs and registry hacks, then running a Rootkit process to mask their installation. If you attempt to uninstall the playing software, the device drivers are left installed, and are left active. Trying to delete the drivers manually - providing you can even find them - can leave your PC crippled. The code is programmed so badly, you can be losing 1-2% of your CPU time even when the CD isn't in the drive, as the DRM software is searching your machine to check nothing is going on that it should know about.

OK now who wants to go and screw over sony? I certainly do

Only by using a RKT detector can you see the processes running and from there, it's an incredibly complicated process to break down the inbuilt protections in the software

So the only way to get rid or even detect it is by some serious reg hacks and you need to be a programmer to disassemble it

Lesson 1:It pays to read the EULA when installing software gentlemen, although the majority of people don't. The fact that the EULA on this copyrighted disk made no mention of it installing DRM software on the machine should be grounds for legal action. But who's gonna take on the mighty legal arsenal of Sony/BMG

TBH, Sony have a history of lying to people like this........

For a start, their version of a Firewire cable costs £18 and marketed it in the beginning stating that Sony products won't work with a normal Firewire product.

Its like when the PSP was released, Sony tried to state (more marketting crap) that the PSP shipped 10million units when in fact it had only shipped 2.5million.....

But hey, if I didn't have a girlfriend and was really REALLY sad, I'd invent a adapter for my nob, so that I could sex my PSP like a dirty dutchman :3some: :double: :humpin: :humpin: :humpin:
