Sony screws over PS4 owners with Horizon Forbidden West - PS5 upgrades are not free

Good job I am waiting for it to release on PC.

I will not be buying it on Playstation, even if I could and wanted to get a PS5 this would stop me buying it on the PS4 or 5 full stop!

PC version I will buy because I believe it will be better than the console version, but if they pull something like this with the pc version, then I will not buy it!

I can't wait to play this.
On the PC.

Even by the time it arrives on PC, there'll still be a shortage of PS5's.

So much for you won't ever have to pay for a PS4 to ps5 upgrade. They also did this with Ghost of Tsushima Definitive Edition.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah pretty poor move from Sony on this.

I'm lucky enough to have a PS5 and am a MASSIVE Horizon fan so have pre-order the Regalla Edition.

Sony should be sued for false advertising.

In reference to both Horizons FW and Spiderman Morales
Sept 16th 2020 Sony CEO:

“No one should be disappointed,” Ryan said. “The PS5 versions of those games are built from the ground up to take advantage of the PS5 feature set, and we have an upgrade path for PS4 users to get the PS5 versions for free. It’s about people having choice. I’m really quite pleased about the situation.”

Additionally in a blog post STILL ONLINE ON SONYS WEBSITE
https://blog.playstation.com/2020/0...499-for-ps5-with-ultra-hd-blu-ray-disc-drive/

"Additionally, we know that the PS4 community will transition to PS5 at different times, and we’re happy to announce PS4 versions of some of our exclusives. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also launch on PS4. While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch. The PS4 digital versions of launch games include a free upgrade on both PS5 consoles, while the PS4 disc versions of these games include a free upgrade on the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive."

Note the second quote vs the first. In the second he adds "launch games". Spiderman was a launch game. It was free. They delayed HFW. So technically not a launch game. Meaning they can no longer be held to that promise if you.take their word literally. But it contradicts itself. Still bull.

It would also explain why Ghost of Tsushima Definitive Edition is not a free upgrade from PS4 to PS5. You have to basically buy the game all over again, for $70.

Apparently Sony based of that statement have backed down on charging for the PS5 upgrade from the PS4 version.

Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.

Good they made one smart move.

Still made another crap one with charging for an upgrade($10 as he said in the link) during a time when most people still can't get one.

Pretty ironic MS of all companies is handling this transition better than Sony.

I actually think this cross platform method from MS is genius.

So nice to be able to switch from Console to PC and not have to pay for the game again, e.g. Forza 7 etc and this doesnt even take XB Game pass into account.

Agreed. Xbox and MS on the gaming side are finally starting to be more consumer friendly and actively trying to make windows/MS gaming a cohesive platform. Granted they are at a serious disadvantage against Sony for console gaming, so they must have some sort of edge. The One to the Series move is perfect for them but then leveraging Windows as well? It's a chefs kiss imo.

Xbox is definitely the better platform because of everything they are doing, just lack the games unfortunately. Which in time should change.
