Sony Readies The New Cell Processor

Its just that i needed a new pc anyway and generally i enjoy pc games more. Still doesnt mean i wont get a console later on in the year :p

Still considering a ps3 depending on whether it does indeed turn out pants

i know the feeling, i enjoy playing fps games on the pc, but i love playing games on the wii. Although the wii is not really the norm.

The PS2 went through a number of revisions before they created one that had 99% stability, same sort of thing happened with the 360. Nothing new tbh.

As was said in another thread on here, it's just as well GB gets the PS3 in march (or whatever) as it might actually do what it's meant to by then ;).

Edit - The article doesn't say that this cell is for the PS3, before we all go Sony bashing :p.

This is no run of the mill revision though, they're actually upping the power... I'd be super mad if I had a new PS3 in my hands right now.

Does 6 GHz sound ridiculous to anyone else? I doubt Sony would up the clock speed by a factor of nearly 2, this would make games even harder to program if you have to be compatible with the older PS3s.

tbh i think the playstation has had its time. bumping up the power is just not enough, and current console sales are testament to that. sony should either cut their losses and focus on audio and home electronics or start afresh and make a console that actually has SOME innovation behind it, not just slapping together the most expensive components they can get their hands on

I have to totally disagree with that, the demand is still there for Playstation so why stop making them, I am sure once they are fully released they will dominate the market again.

Rant over

Going along with what Hyper has said, if a Final Fantasy XIV (or whatever) comes out, all will be forgotten.

For me it was Zelda for Nintendo, FF for Psx.

I don't mean that there is no demand for it. There is loads, but loads for the playstation (like 1 and 2), not for the overpriced, boring piece of junk that they have produced this time and will probably continue to produce

The trouble with this Playstation has been the hype, Sony boasting how good it is as usual (when it's good but not THAT good), the media attention, the delays and most importantly the fact that MS are really starting to get some sweet titles for the 360

Well no, there's no actual confirmation that this cell is for the ps3...

For real??? Nice, I want one of those baddies!

Why? they are so lame.

IBM and AMD are building together the most powerful super computer by using Opterons and Cells.

What else is the cell in though, nothing that I know of?

They're used in blades, accelerator boards, rack mounts, embedded sytems.. why the hell would IBM have helped make it if it was only going to be used in PS3s? ;)

Maybe IBM wanted to jump on the bandwagon thinking that Sony was actually going to be successful with the PS3, hehe. I dunno, don't mind my retardedness but I really had no idea that they were using Cell's in servers and such :p
