I have another computer at home and i want to control it from mine.

the computers run on XP SP2 os.

if someone know how to turn on the windows Remote Desktop Connection server it will help.

important: the other computer is connected to the net and to the home network by wireless.

thanks.

omri i want it by enternet...

because of that i searching the way to turn on Remote Desktop Connection server.

first of, you will need an account/log in on the pc you want to log into. This account will need a password.

Now on this computer make sure remote desktop is active by doing the following;

right click on my computer > props

remote tab

make sure "allow users to remotely connect to this computer"

select remote users, make sure you add your account/username here.

apply/ok all of the open windows

you should now be set up to veiw remote desktop internally.

To view from the outside world you will need to make sure you forward port 3389 to the machine you want to connect to.

Open up remote desktop client, think its in program files > accessories > comms

now enter the external ip and your username and password, you should now connect.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also if you dont like remote desktop theres a another good free one called realVNC

hope this helps

i agree with above post, real vnc is prob the best out there, use it on any os, very secure.

Cross-OS desktop sharing via VNC is sooooo lagtasticly slow, I can't stand it.

It depends what you use and what your network is like, I use it between my one pc and another over 100Mbit lan and G wifi and the lag is barely noticable.

Different OS's or the same? And over a LAN the lag isnt that bad, it's when u actually remote in from another location that it sucks.

Different OS's connecting to a Linux box from Windows. I hate how Microsoft limited you to only being able to setup Remote Desktop connection on Windows XP.

Not that it`ll help the thread starter, but I used to find the free VNC, or the cut down one atleast, used to start off really good then go laggy after so many hours. The manager type was the same, but over a longer period of time.

Great piece of software tho, I`d h8 to use it somewhere where the other pc is a long way away.

intresting,

someone can give me links to a good vnc that includes information about how to install it?

I use SSH for remote access to my firewall and Telnet for my routing system. But they both run linux so it's pretty good.

I used to use SSH+X-Tunnel for my xbox remote access ages ago when I had linux on that aswell and that worked quite well (even cross-platform) and seems to be secure. Altho if you're not going across the internet it shouldn't make too much difference :)
