Some Questions about USB 3.0

Game Over

Ok I have a few questions that are probably going to sound very noobish to many of you. I could surf google for a while and maybe get some answers or ask here for some straight forward simple answers/advice.

I am not really up on the whole usb 3.0 but understand that it really speeds things up. The new rig OC3D hooked me up with is 3.0 equiped.

At this time the only things I use USB for are thumb Flash Drives, a usb adapter for my micro memory cards, keyboard and mouse. Will I notice any difference using the 3.0 port for my flash drives and adapter over the usb 2.0?

will any usb device get better performance through the 3.0 or does the device also have to be special 3.0 capable?

If I do use the 3.0 port, I will need to get an extension usb cable because the 3.0 is at the back of the pc, Can I use a standard usb cable or again, do I need some special USB cable.

I can understand using the 3.0 if you have a nice external drive or something but not sure Its even worth using for flash drives, I am assuming the the flash drives themselves are the bottle neck when it comes to moving info between the PC and Flash drive so a faster port would make no difference?

Thanks for any advice/input.

PS. The rig is running great, not one issue yet, have played many games maxed out and have had 0 lag or low frame rates. Looking forward to Destroying Battlefield 3 with her soon.

Photoshop and Aftereffects are so fast now.

You might get slightly better performance using a USB 2 device with a 3 port as opposed to a 2 port but it will be minimal, you need a 3 device to use a 3 ports bandwidth to the full - remember the rule of speed is determined by the slowest link in the chain.

If you use a 3 port to plug in your phone then I can't really say if there would be an improvement. I use a 3 port with my phone to import images (my only camera, don't care for it much) and it seems pretty speedy but I'd have to say current gen mini-usb are probably USB 2.

Depends. I have my pair of 3 ports on the motherboard I/O so don't need one.

You would need a 3 flash drive to get the most of a flash drive on a 3 port. 3 ports just run at 2 speed for 2 devices.

Using 2 devices on 3 ports is like using the Veyron's engine with bargain bin tyres.

Using 3 devices on 2 ports is like using the Veyron's tyres with the engine of a 1970s Volkswagen Golf.

Thanks, Thats kind of what I was assuming. Thanks for the Confirmation.
