I spec'd a new PC few years back but got a well known company to build it just wasn't ballsy enough first time round to do it myself. That build was basically a

Asus Maximus Extreme IV
I7 2600K
GTX680 (Upgraded to 980 now via 780)
8GB Ram
+ the usual drives and extras
Displayed on a BENQ 2410T

Now back in the market and want to build (Ooooh Scary stuff / mod a new machine and came here for some steerage and ideas after watching the You Tube channel

Noob in some (who am I kidding) a lot of aspects but wanting to learn.

Look forward to making your acquaintance.

Welcome to the forums mate.

We will be glad to give you a few directions on your new build. Just let us know what your basic plans are.

Do you want a whole new build or upgrade you current build? What is your price range etc.

When it comes to modding a good idea would be to look at the project logs section for some ideas and see what you think you want to try yourself. Do you want to paint or slightly mod a case or stay stock.

Have you ever tried overclocking any of your current hardware?

Sorry for all the questiong etc, just want to get some ideas spinning in your head.

Welcome to the OC3D forums fella, you're in the right place for advice and guidance as it's what we do. Enjoy your stay here.

Welcome to the forums you have come to the right place for guidance :). Let us know what you have in mind so we can help you mate.

specs seem reasonable enough as is. maybe you would want to look at cases to mod then install the stuff in there. i guess if possible you would want a 3770k instead of the 2600k (i assume you over clock) chances are the board will take the 3770k "90% chance" which would give you pci-e 3.0 although how much faster that will be with the 980 compared to the 2600k is debatable..

but you could go nuts on a case if you wanted too. possibly throw in a full loop (not that its needed but with a 3770k and a 980 even over clocked with enough rad space you could have it almost silent.

any hoo lots of people happy to help here. i'm not one to ask for moding cases though. im more about the raw performance i can get out of stuff and then making it as quite as possible, and i never cared about aesthetics.

Thanks for the welcome,

just those posts have got the juices flowing, I certainly have some reading to do and will peruse the suggested posts for ideas.

I am going to build from scratch with a budget of around £2000 - £2500. I'm not sure I want a nice case to look at as it sits in the wrong place to be admired, probably want performance.

I haven't overclocked my current system so perhaps some baby steps could be taken there.

off to digest some threads.

Thanks again
