[SOLVED] Single random beep while in windows

Hi everyone,

Not sure what to think of this, but i just got this random single beep while i was on the computer. It hasn't happened again yet.

Do i need to change anything with my BIOS settings??

I am running Award BIOS.
 
is there anything else around that may be causing it?? reason I ask is I posted once like this and later found my 5yo had left my old cell phone that she plays with near my comp and its battery was dying lol. Talk about freaking ya out.
 
No this is definately from the PC. I was first thinking it could be the RAM, but i am not sure.

I have not done anything with RAM settings/voltages in BIOS.

Although my OC only consists of a upped Vcore and Multi.
 
you'll have to try and pinpoint when it does it kinda hard to say without more info and I'm sure ur providing what ya can atm. Does the comp do anything else besides the beep?? like freeze or pause mouse jump?? anything lol

Hi,

I started getting random beeps once, it turned out to be my motherboards CPU overheat warning - I'd been set far too low. As tempuratures rose that summer my PC ran a little warmer. I just changed the setting to something more realistic.

I've had the same happen when one of my fans connected to the motherboard failed and I got beeping to say a fan was running below its minimum. Oh, I also got the same once when I fitted some silent low-rpm fans that spun below the motherboards minimum acceptable level - I had to disable fan monitoring all together to get rid of that.

Might be worth checking settings in the BIOS to see if any such warning beep was set.

Note: My beeping started with the odd beep, then got more frequent.

These were all on older motherboards, not on my new Sandy B.

I guess it's worth just double checking all settings in case it's something as simple for you as it was for me.

I have checked my settings and it all seems ok. Its not an OC issue either i found out, i have reset my settings in bios all to standard to try and fix it, i am still getting this stupid random beep from the internal speaker, i have tried finding it through Event View after it happens, sometimes i get an event come up, sometimes i don't. So i'm really lost. Should i reinstall windows??
 
i thought i fixed it by disabling Smart Fan in BIOS. I never got one beep yesterday, played my games no problem most of the day. However the beep came back today, so i disabled cpu fan fail warning, to see what happens

It might still be a fan. Even my new motherboard didn't like the fact that my fans are able to spin down to 300rpm. It thought that a little low so when I had ASUS's monitoring and tweaking tools installed it'd give me a warning. This motherboard isn't a beeper though. Regardless I changed the warning threshold levels so the tool wouldn't keep popping up at me while I was just doing desktop stuff. Once gaming fans tended to be above this low limit.

Well disabling cpu fail warning seems like its working, i'll give it another day or two before i mark this as SOLVED.

Cool, might be that you're fans go lower than your motherboard likes every now and again, just like the issue I had. Keep an eye on it, but hopefully that was it!

I think its safe to say i've fixed it by turning off CPU fan fail warning. Although the fans aren't failing in any way, could this just mean the speed is a bit slow?

Yup. If you're fans aren't fast enough(800-1500RPM, they're set with the stock sub-80mm fan installed), they'll trigger the fan alarm.

Yep, that's the exact issue I had. On older boards I assume due to me using larger fans on an aftermarket cooler rather than the smaller standard ones. When using a "quiet" fan mode (fans tend to spin slower, but temps may be a little higher) they often dropped below what was considered "safe" - this wasn't quite right. On older motherboards I just disabled the fan speed alarm, on my newer motherboards you can configure what's considered a "too low" fan speed so it's far easier. For example, on my Z68 board I've set minimum speed to 300rpm, beforehand that was higher and would trigger the alarm when the ASUS Probe (whatever it's called) tools were running.

Good fans can shift a lot of air at lower speeds when compared to normal or smaller fans of course.

Dual 140's ought to provide a lot of cooling (990x @ 4.53GHz ?!? Holy crap). Around winter (Christmas), I'll jump on water cooling (RX360 kit) or an NH-D14. Right now, I'm using the stock AMD cooler. I measured a 72mm fan on it. Weird, I know. You can get a lot out of the stock cooler, so I'm not too eager to replace it (I got 4GHz with 1.475V. Temps were high though)
