Small talk & Chit chat

Seeing as you have a 2080, i would say stick with what you have, its still a pretty beastly card and wait out for the next gen stuff.

Evening all.

Help me with a decision.

2080 Ti (with waterblock) now or wait for this years potential cards?

Buy it now. I am done telling people to wait since you will wait forever. Buy now, Sell it later for good price.

I just sold both my 1080ti cards for 5500kr which converting to GBP it would seem bad, but in our enclosed currency it would be like selling them for £550 each. Its practically paid for my 2080ti.

If I waited longer, my value on the 1080ti would drop and i would probably lose out.

I've got two options, an EVGA FTW3 brand new for around £1200 or a B-stock Gigsbute Auros Extreme for £850. Either would go with a waterblock.

What would you think would be best? I'm a little apprehensive about the later being B-stock as the e-tailer advised they couldn't advise why it was B

Mid range I'd personally take a chance on a B, especially if from OCUK - high end however, new every time for me.

I'd go B grade

Often its just an unused returned card, or one used on the shop floor. It should still be protected by guarantee etc. And the Aorus Extreme is a good card

Nah not in the case of OCUK. They're usually returned for a reason.

You also only get 90 days warranty, which would worry me on a big investment like this. I'm not sure Gigabyte honour the full warranty either, so I would try and check that first.

I guess due to the big price drop you could get the card home, try and register it and if it doesn't register send it back? at least you would have plenty of time to test it.

B grade items are usually display models (water blocks and so on) and returns. And they are only tested to a certain degree. So if someone bought that Ti and expected it to be a demon overclocker and it wasn't they would return it. Kinda like how Dice returns everything :D

But yeah jokes aside, if you do order a B grade GPU set your expectations low. Because unless the person all of a sudden changed their mind then it won't clock well and so on. At least with Gigabyte you have a glimmer of hope on full warranty, however do note OCUK will point out it is B grade on the receipt, which may waive your rights when you show it to Gigabyte.

I dunno. I don't think he said it was OCUK. I thought someone else mentioned them. I bought my 780 Ti as B grade and there was nothing wrong with them. great clockers in Single card setup. But SLI never over clocks as well, so I always left them at stock when in SLI.

So I finally got in contact with my doc about those chest/breathing pains after a lil anxiety attack this morning, turns out she's pretty certain it's muscle related with a hint of anxiety mixed in(Diagnosed over the phone), I probably pulled something when I last saw my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago/the day before it started, apparently, and likely have made it a little worse by continuing to exercise. Thank f for that.

Personally I always make these decisions based on the warranty provided, I buy New mostly if I get longer warranty only, also worth remembering you can return something no questions asked in the first 30 days, if you manage to work out why it's B-grade and you're not pleased with it.

Thanks for all the info guys. Still sat on the fence. Will ponder overnight!

tgrech, I have something similar, I tend to pull a certain muscle in my chest quite a lot and make the worst assumption possible and think it's a heart attack.

I just looked up the retail price for the Aorus. In Norway its 15000kr so £1100. The price drop is about right for a B grade item. I don't see an issue provided its from an etailer that you trust.

So the idiot across the hall from me keeps having visitors at least twice a day, All different people, Been like a train yard the last couple of days, This is the reason I call most people utter idiots.

Ah bugger, I'm pretty much never sickly but lately my throat has felt a bit odd, feels like I'd been shouting.

Hmmm, perhaps it's an omen for me to get a new card - the second display port on my 2080 no longer provides any audio... I rarely use it for that purpose but still, weird it's just stopped working.

UPDATE: Got in touch with Nvidia and they suggested installing the new HF driver, which surprisingly worked (considering I'd already tired a fresh install of the previous driver).

So through my school signed up for the AWS(Amazon Web Services) Foundational Certification Program. Excited and nervous. Hear it's difficult but I am given 4 weeks to complete it. Seeing as I can't go anywhere figured why not. Have done a tiny bit of cloud stuff before through MS's academy, but that was years ago so not really much to lean on. Plus going through the school means they pay for it... so makes sense to at least try!

Lol so rumor is that Intel Comet lake CPU are running hot. Blistering hot! in a bad way.

Guru3D made an article showing the CPU possibly running 80-90C

https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/comet-lake-dekstop-cpus-reportedly-run-hot.html

oh Intel.. why did you bother milking this wafer more :D

Also. Loved the first comment "should have named it Lava lake" haha

lol. That would be why my buddy (who reviews for another site) said they were crap :D

But yeah, cramming two cores onto the same nm was always going to end badly.

Still waiting for my new pc part's to be delivered, I know things are tricky at the moment and stuff so I can understand a delay but it's getting a bit silly now, I cannot believe they are that busy that they have that many orders, to mean it takes a week or more to actually pick someones order and get it dispatched.

Looked at a few other retailers to price it all up as I was going to phone Scan and get the order cancelled and refunded, but everywhere I looked it meant changing parts out and not being able to get the same amount of stuff for the same price or even within £100 of the price from Scan.

Spoke to Scan and they have said they are doing there best and will try and get it delivered ASAP, and I know it's not essential etc but I just want to get the parts here and get it built.
