Small talk & Chit chat

Not too surprised, Ubisoft have been the EA of the mid/late 2010's really

Inevitably that's how they all end up. But, just as history shows it never wins. EA have been punished by people simply not buying their crap. It's so bad they're putting games back on Steam.

Karma is a real biyatch.

I also don't agree with DRM. At all. It's complicated, but mostly down to capitalism idealism. IE - some little twot who went to college actually believes he can force his marketing and ideas down people's throats and they'll be so stupid that they'll just go along with it all. Times are changing, word spreads easily now and word of mouth (or Twitter and etc) is important.

Bethesda also actually believe that if they market FO76 hard enough and keep saying how awesome it is it will actually sell. They also moved into phase two, which is take your game and add lots of crap and charge loads of money and people will buy it. What they failed to grasp was that you actually need a decent game for that part to actually work.

Coders believe that their work belongs to them and them only and don't realise that the only way to keep it like that is not to sell it. Once you do that's it. Control is lost.

DRM is a total waste of time because it never works. Sure, it may slow people down but it won't stop them. Sure, at first your product may sell in higher numbers initially but if it's slow as balls people will notice and will stop buying it.

Dice has learned the hard way that they still actually believe they can stomp it out, but sadly they're stupid because as I said, this is modern times and word travels fast. You can't moderate the world and stop word travelling.

Well Ubisofts non human customer support got back to me and they said and I quote -

The posting of the video breaks the terms of use. As it discussed the removal of DRM, it fell under the topic of discussing piracy.
I did try to reason with it by saying and I quote -

If you would have actually watched the video you would see it was NOT condoning piracy, Only highlighting the FACT that in this instance the DRM used lowers performance by quite a margin on all fronts and there are quite a few people, Myself included, That would love to know the devs decision of implementing such a performance hampering piece of software that obviously doesn't stop anonymous cracking groups but negatively impacts genuine paying customers like myself and many others.
The only answer I got was their social media admin blocking me so I couldn't get through to them.

Ubisoft have lost my custom, Absolutely disgusting way of treating people for simply asking a question.

Doesn't surprise me at all how they treat their customers with regards to drm, if any studio is paranoid as hell and very defensive about it, its Ubisoft and Ubisoft has a ridiculous history with DRM schemes and policies.

I wouldn't mind if I was actively condoning DRM removal etc... but I wasn't, It was a question about DRM performance, A frakking question and I get treated like I'm Captain Blackbeard trying to steal all of Yves Guillemot's French baguettes.

Given that Ubisoft is French, this analogy is pretty funny xD

Seriously though, a lot of forums back in the day didn't really want this topic on their boards, esp the forums of game developers, and the only one that kept this behaviour is ofcourse, Ubisoft.

I haven't been big on Ubi games in general and their policy back in the day with Assassins Creed 2 requiring constant online connection and would drop you out to the main menu if it couldn't phone home, since then i have not bothered to buy any game of them.

Well as of now I won't be buying any more of their products, They've completely lost me as a customer, I still have access to my Uplay library but it won't be being added to ever again, Or at least not until Uplays customer support is replaced with actual humans and not lizard people.

Yeah good choice, not a fun one, but you know, treating costumers like enemies for a simple question is reason enough to say, no more.

I think you are overreacting tbh.

The video talks about removing DRM. DRM is about Privacy for the company. Regardless of that intention of the video's content, the very fact it's removing privacy-focused software, advertising and making money off of PLUS talking about it is reason enough to say you are condoning it.

If you read the terms of service which they claim discussing DRM is related to privacy, then you would not have had this awful experience

It's dumb they went this far, but if you agreed to the TOS and get mad about repercussions for breaking it, that's on you. Now could they have been more lenient? I think they should have it, but clearly, because it's a topic centered around massive heated arguments, it's not far fetched to believe they are over discussing it. Now if TOS said nothing about it, then yes I'd be on your side. At least they didn't ban your account. If they went that far I'd be majorly angry for you.

As far I am concerned you should have received a very clear warning to stop. Now I wouldn't blame Ubi for what happened because it could have been a community moderator if it was a forum. Meaning not paid. If it was a Ubi employee then that reflects differently.

So sad to hear that. I really hope it will get under control soon.

I heard your PM refused air support from UN countries :(

This kind of thing I would happily pay taxes to support if it meant saving a nation and wildlife.

Some clever people have estimated 480 million animals have been killed during these fires they're twice the size burnt out as the Amazon fires recently with more still to come and possibility of no rain till March!

Not looking forward to tomorrow temps in some parts of the country are going to hit 50C it was 44C at my place the other day so I'm expecting the same again so that's 122F and 111.2F

The people in power in Aus are not well in the head, The PM goes on holiday while his country literally burns, They refuse aid from other countries, Their firemen are all volunteers, I think it's safe to say something needs to change in Aus.

Is it really 480 million though? I doubt there's that many? Just seems wrong but I don't live there so I wouldn't know. If it's true that's just unfathomable.

Couldn't agree more all he gives a stuff about it getting the economy in the black which does absolutely stuff all for the people of Australia as well as selling us out to every other country too, there's a town where they have no water they have to truck it in from elsewhere but the local government sold the drilling of the aquifer to the Chinese of 90 million liters per year for the next 100 years!
