Hey guys

I want to have a backup/ media server for under £300 I already have 2x2tb wd green drives but i have no clue what motherboard to use or cpu as the new AMD APU's came out.

Thanks in advance

since it's going to be under little stress I assume get one of the new AMD processors as they're cheap and the APU's are good from what I hear. Get an appropriate socket motherboard as long as it's cheap because you won't need a lot of features.
I could be wrong here but you may want to get a soundcard for watching movies but maybe you shouldn't get one depending on your current set up

Do you need it to actually output any video? Sounds to me as if you need something to be more CPU oriented.
Does this £300 include the OS?

If all you're going to do is stream, a dual core CPU would suffice. I have a dual core in my server and it does the job well. You really don't need anything more powerful for basic video streaming (in my experience).

Is this going to be somewhere where you'll be spending a lot of time? Like in the bedroom, or in your office area?

Edit: watcha think of this? -

The case does not have good cable management, but the PSU does.

I wouldn't know how to use such OSs, and I don't know if the OP can either. If he can, he can easily deduct the £30 from the total.

I quite like that spec josh and I reckon I will go with it but I already have the OS so I think I will get a better case =D Thanks a lot.

If you already have the hard drives, you might want to look into getting a NAS? saves you set up time and some can do everything a home server can and then some? For ease I like my Synology NAS better than my home server.
