SLI Setup

hi,

I run 2 GTX 480's. 1 is factory overclocked. It's in the 1st slot. I think thats the way to have it. Do you agree? Does it matter? How?

It's logical.

you'll want to run them with the exact same clocks mate stop any problems comin from them being mis matched

thats if u can run sli with different clocks on them

ok thanks. they've been fine for games. there is sometimes a little problem when i undo SLI then re-do it, the windows ficker, like internet or document pages.

I'll run them at the same frequency now. I've just fitted an EVGA back-plate to the stock card. the other card is an EVGA SC+, it has a back-plate and custom bracket. They suit nicely

as its been said on here mate, pics or it didnt haappen

Sli runs at the lowest clock speed of what ever gpu is in there and matches the rest sadly. That includes memory and shaders.

oh. MSI Afterburner doesn't give a result like that. It shows each card at different max speeds and the memory usage is the same.

MSI afterburner has the option to equal similar GPU speeds, I'm usin that now

Right now they are at their standard speeds: 701 MHZ + 726 MHZ Core clocks, according to EVGA Precision with a game running with SLI

I want clarification about is it best to have the faster card in the first slot. it's logical to do that and i'm not sure.

ofc EVGA puts their intelligence in their software, same for MSI and I do consider your knowledge murphy

Reduce the clocks to match on afterburner even if you use after burner to have them a different clocks the sli drivers from nvidia will still process at the slowest clock speed so just stressing your first card more for no pay off. Also I remember you saying that the overclocked card is water cooled its better to have that on top because heat rises and the back plate of the lower card wont feed into it because doesn't have fan in take. Lastly as long as got your mobo has 8x/8x sli doesn't matter which slots as long as there the same speed. Oh also if you got any old nvidia card kicking around you could use it as dedicated physic card if you got 3 pci-e slots but put on the slowest slot if you got one.

hi murphy. the OC'd card is in the first slot. I understand what you mean. The monitoring software shows the clock speed wich do alternate when not much is happening and under load it shows them at their indervidual max speeds, confused.

I posted a pic of a watercooled card as a reference to the foam strip for my other question/thread. My cards have reference coolers. It has a third card, look at my profile for the detail.

its ok/risky to match to the faster card, i have put a back-plate on the slower card. the OC is small, it shouldn't break

i have tried registering to nvidias forum and email confirmation doesnt work.

Yer its not great but the answers ypu should be hear http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_faq.html#c18

thanks. i looked at all the info on that page. this is all i found:

Can I mix and match graphics cards is one of them is overclocked by the manufacturer?

Yes. A GeForce XXXX GTX that is overclocked can be mixed with a standard clocked GeForce XXXX GTX.

it need updating. the page says SLI 32xAntiAliasing is only available with quad SLI. My 2 480 have SLI 32xAnti Aliasing and SLI 64xAnti Aliasing options

MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision have a good monitoring software, they don't automatically alter frequency's. the user can do that with the settings part ofc. The monitoring part displays in-game giving us real-time frequency's, temps etc
