SLI has let me down

Well time i had a rant about this one.....

just after xmas i was saving up to buy a 2nd 560ti.

I put a post up on the forum got peoples advice but (stupidly) i stuck to my guns and was a classic Nvidia fan boy and got another 1. what a waste of time.

I've been using SLI since Nvidia got it right properly my old 6800gt's. these 2 cards in sli were amazing. both my friend and were both playing doom 3 at one point. he had a 7900 not sure if was gt or gtx and i was performing miles ahead of him.

then went on to 9800gt's same thing can't remember his ati card at the time but was alot more expensive

then i got 2 260 oc maxi core the bfg ones.

now it was still noticeably quicker than one but no where near as good as the previous generations.

what has happened??

SLI used to be amazing... or is it my cards?

They aren't of the same brand but i assumed that the faster one would just default to the others speed, which was reasonable anyway.

sorry for a rant, anyone else had siilar issues to this?

GTX560Ti SLI FTW it can go play with my GTX580..........

so what my friend above me asked ?

greetings Ray.......

I built my nephews system with msi twin frozr ii in sli and the performance nearly doubled. If your having scaleing issues we need more info MB, Cpu, mem, psu.

mobo:Asus m4n98 evo

cpu phenom ii 955 @ 4ghz

ram: vengance ddr3 8g @ 1600

psu: Coolermaster RS-850

i'm not saying that i'm having any probs with it, runs all my games fine, what i'm sayin is the performance gaps seemed to have diminshed.

2x cards used to out perform almost any single card back in the day, but i'm pretty sure my system wouldn't compete with a single 580.

its just more of a rant lol. maybe should of posted this in the rant section, ws just wondering if anyone had the technical knowledge (i.e someone who works on gpu development or such like)

My guess is quite simply marketing or the chips. either nvidia realised that 2x cheaper chips means people upgrade less often or that the manufactuering process has made the technology less efficient
