Sleeving an AX850

So got the bits and pieces to have a go at sleeving my corsair ax850. I've noticed the 24 pin and the pci-e cables have a number of pins where 2 cables go into 1 pin on the non-psu side. I tried placing the shrink over the 2 sleeves when I had a go at one of the pci-e cables last night but it's a bloody nightmare to get in that way and doesnt hold firm at all.

Anyone have any experience of sleeving this psu can recommend the best way of dealing with this?

That would be nice. I've seen a guide where a guy splices the 2 wires into 1 to create a Y connection so that he only has 1 wire going in where normally you'd have 2, I'd be interested to see if you have managed it differently so I wouldn't have to bother messing about with stripping and soldering etc

You have to split and strip them, you dont have to solder them though. I'm having some problems with my new hardware, let me sort it out and I will do some pics for you dude.

Few pics would be awesome, want to get this done but don't have a crimping tool at the mo as didn't realise I was going to need one.

Oh crap dude, I forgot, give me 'til tomorrow. Have you got shrink tubing and some wire cutters? The 'Y' split method is best where you cut and solder it, but you can shrink tube it and not solder it.

No probs dude.

Aye got everything else - wire cutters, shrink wrap, soldering iron etc just not a crimping tool.

If I can cut one wire, wrap round the other then solder it and tidy up with shrink to create a 'Y' split without having to re-crimp to a new connector that would be quicker as wont have to get hold of a crimping tool.

Hey Pexon, I'm kinda having the same question :p how can you make it work without soldering?

I just covered both wires with 1 bit of sleeving. It was a bit tighter and didn't stretch as much but it still worked just fine to be honest.

Sorry if that wasn't the answer that you were looking for, but at least you know it does work :)

Did it on a corsair 1050w psu
