Single graphics card for gaming on 1080p highest settings

Is the Fractal Desigin Define Black Mini very tall then the Silverstone TJ08B-E i wanted to go for something not to tall or else i would have gone with the Corsair Obsidian 650D just want something not to tall

Am just thinking should i go for the i5 2500k or the i7 2600k or the new i7 2700k for gaming and web browsing and watching 3d movies and non 3d movies as well and some work don't use any 3d max software or anything like that might try it down the road thanks

There is no point in waiting for the i7 2700k. It is just a 2600k with a slight bump in CPU speed. Intel say that the CPU's are "cherry picked", but I think it's Intel's way of charging a higher premium for a minimal gain in the CPU stock speed.

I have a 2600k and I sometimes convert videos, so the Hyperthreading does help, but I do it so rarely that I really don't need Hyperthreading, so I have it turned off. In the future, more and more applications will make use of Hyperthreading and if you see yourself doing picture/video editing in the future then the i7 2600k would be the better choice. If your primary use will be gaming, then the i5 2500k is on par with the i7 2600k.

I think unless you need all that extra power from the 8 threads of the 2600K for video/image rendering, you'll be quite happy with the 2500K for gaming, browsing and general entertainment. In the future, if you want or need a better CPU, the Ivy Bridge CPUs will be readily available.

For scale, if you line up the Fractal R3 being the tallest, the Define Mini would come in 2nd, and the Silverstone TJ08-E will be the smallest of them all. So no, the Define Mini isn't too big or small as it's perfectly fine for a mATX designated case. The height of the Define Mini is 39.5cm and the TJ08-E is 37.4cm in height for your reference. The TJ08-E is just a bit shorter in depth as well, so it wouldn't make a massive difference between the 2. Which one do you prefer?

Thanks for your reply. Will the ivy bridge work on the old motherboard like asus maximus IV gene - z socket 1155 or will i need to buy a new board when this comes out thanks

Thank you for your reply. then i might as well go for the define mini since its only 2.1cmm tall then the Silverstone TJ08-E

You're most welcome. The Ivy Bridge CPUs will be compatible with all P67 or Z68 motherboards via BIOS update. They are still 1155 CPUs, so you won't have any worries with the Gene-Z. That's cool; so you're going for the Define Mini? Forget to mention that the Define Mini has fan options so you can add more fans in the future. It also comes with everything dust filtered and has vent covers along with sound dampening material.

Looking forward to seeing your build.

Hey all,

Im in the same boat right about now too....

I was looking at either the 580 or 590 and decided for a 580 form a price point.

ATM i am running Xfire 5870s, and want to go to just one single card. SO i decided to sell my cards while they where still kind of new, so i can get most my money back on them.

I seen the review on the Gig 580 OCed. but the fact that it is only 1.5gb would be a downgrade for me ATM

what about the MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme 3GB ive been looking into this card.

I do not really want to OC my GPU but i may OC my CPU with the free watts i get from a one card set up....

and finally i have 2 monitors one at 1920x1200 and one at 1080p (1920x1080).....i only game full screen on the 16:10 screen and the other one is on my desk top and other PC stuff....so i think i will need more GB then just 1.5

and i want to go back to nivdia mainly because of PysX and i hate catalyst control panel

If you get a single GPU card with hopes to some day get another to run them SLI or XFIRE note your motherboard layout because some aftermarket coolers wont like the other card stacked in the next slot below because they largely rely on having a very good space of air flow, like the MSI twin frozer cooler and ASUS direct coolers. Reference coolers probably cope better in these scenarios because their design account for that problem quite well. If you have a very roomy motherboard for multi GPU's then theres alot to choose from
