Crivens, how hard is it to get hold of a silver optical drive these days?
My Lite on has been tampered with by Advent and I can't ID the model to flash the bios. Because of this the drive doesn't work very well at all. Refuses to read DVDs, won't read copied media, I mean damn, this bloody thing won't even read my Windows install disc
So I decide to just stop sweating the bloody thing and replace it. However, I want a silver drive to flush up the front of the silver Alienware so that it doesn't just have this black clump in it.
I have spent over a week looking for a suitable drive in silver and I have found one. A Sony Optiarc thing. It's not terribly priced (£15+ SH) but it's not really what I wanted. I wanted a Pioneer or something like that. So I figured I would look around for a nice alu bezel. Can't get them any more. FFS, every one used to make those ! CM, Silverstone, Lian. Now though? you can't get bloody bugger all in silver. I mean christ, I remember when you could buy bezels in EVERY colour, even leopard if you wanted that.
I guess that the simple end modding is dying now. I looked for a window kit recently too, Effed if I could find one of those either ! These days you have to buy a sheet of acrylic and make the entire bloody thing yourself and then fit it, where as they used to do kits with a template and all the edging rubber and everything.
So here I am now faced with one drive. I have scoured the internet for two weeks yet the best it could come up with is one drive
