Sick and Tired!!!

24/7 if done correctly. Have a look for some guides for your motherboard. Read what they are doing and take it step by step, little by little.

You can't do any damage as long as you keep voltages within a reasonable level (more volts = more heat = damage)

Keep it below 60c, keep vcore no higher than 1.4v and take it bit by bit. Stress test in between each change (using prime95 or similar). Always overclock using the bios (not a program).

If you change something and it doesnt boot, reset cmos by taking the battery out for a bit, do some power cycles, put it back in and you should be fine.

I started by following a guide and picking it up as I go along. Slow and steady.

Got my Q6600 (oldish) to 3.4ghz 24/7 now and still have no reason to upgrade :)

Same with my 5850 graphics card. Overclocked the pants off it!

okay will continue tomorrow with a open mind, still frustrated and i've set my overclock profile in bios to 15%. will do manual changes tomorrow and keep you posted

It's Zotac's equivalent.
As with Seumas, try and go with MSI AB if you can - it seems to be the best software out there for such things.

For graphics I use my asus overclocking tool specifically for asus cards - it allows me to tweak voltage for higher overclocks. Generally higher overclocks need a bit more voltage = hence needing more cooling.

I stress test my card using furmark. Once it doesn't crash or overheat for an hour or so on this I then benchmark using heaven benchmark.

http://unigine.com/products/heaven/

Its free, gives you a good benchmark. Also if it doesn't crash in this then your overclock is pretty much stable. Bit by bit is the key :) keep settings saved so you can always revert.

Have fun

Personally, i'd keep away from stuff like Furmark, Kombustor, OCCT etc. as GPUs don't seem to be that happy with the extreme levels of stress. I just ran Unigine for 20 minutes to test if the card was semi stable, then left it overnight to see if my overclock was completely stable.

We've alread configured you a gaming rig?! I guess you could overclock, but it won't change the fact that this a very old computer and therefore rubbish for gaming

Was that a "dream pc" ie: never going to happen just wasting our time then???

heh. Even it its still in the pipeworks, tech changes all the time meaning even a week later it will be incorrectly specced. Imo when ever you get a spec you need to order it asap else something better comes along

sorry didn't know, won't happen again Guvnor,
Been overclocking today final results. Any suggestion, comments or if you think i can get more out, you welcome:
