should i stay with my current mobo DFI LANparty x48 or go with a SLI mobo

hey all i had to RMA my DFI Lanparty x48 because of some issues i had installing it last week...so waiting on that board for now, anyways debate rages on here, had a fair few ppl telling me get rid of the board and go for a SLI board that can handle both SLI and a good solid Overclock.

Just curious if anyone could recommend me the best SLI mobo + overclock combo at the moment or should i just stick with what i have atm,il just be using the DFI Lanparty x48 for overclocking as iv heard its a pretty good overclockers board.

So if i do go ahead with running SLI il be running one 9800gx2 on Water and the other just stock,as the other is getting RMA'd also, but with success i installed the 9800gx2 EK Waterblock yesterday without any incidents on the spare 9800gx2 card.

had a few people recommend the 780i as a good overclocker/sli board...anyone here know if they fixed the issues from the 680i?? as few ppl where sceptic to why they jumped to 790i so soon...i thought because of ram as the 790i is a ddr3 board...i could be wrong, anyone care to give out some detail on this 780i board?

anyways the system will be running a q6700 under a D-Tek fuzion version 2 cpu block, would prefer the board to be DDR2 as iv already bought my ram,any further questions ask away!!! cheers.

well the obvious question is, do you need it or do you just want it/a bigger e-peen?!

also, if you have the money, why not? I don't know the technicalities of the boards but that's my 2pence.

well with a spare 9800gx2 laying around that i wont be looking at selling atm,i guess not many games could handle the 9800gx2 SLI at the moment, well id use the money i get for my dfi Lan party x48 to grab the 780i if need be,just want abit more detail and feedback on anyone running one of these 780i boards, how well do they overclock and run in SLI,i believe it can handle x3 cards at once...according to the review i read..hmmm

It can do Tri-SLi, but not with your GX2's- you need a card with a second SLi finger to hook them up in x3. If you are gunning for big res then it could be worth it, but only in the very latest games at all settings high, although that is probably the nicest way to play em! I'd say if you're gonna want to be maxing things like Crysis on a 24"+ then you will see the benefits of SLi [with such powerful cards], but if not i'm not so sure.

was going to use my samsung 46" LCD lol it can take both dvi and HDMI:p

nice^^ yeah I guess SLI is the way forward then! From what I've heard 780i is pretty much an improved version of 680i, and both are pretty damn good chipsets. End of the day, you probably would get a slightly better OC out of the quad on an intel chipset, but not by a huge margin, so it's up to you really- the extra graphical power should outweigh a few MHz on the proccy. I heard there are some FSB holes on NV chipsets but it should be well documented if you research your board before you OC.

yeh cheers for the input, any 780i owners lol care to speak out about this board :p

Nooo, Having had a 680i myself i would stear well clear. IMO you would do best with a 790i and DDR3 if you can afford it :)

well thats what id like to know, wether or not the 780i does the 680i any justice at all,i think the 790i is just ddr3 thats the difference between the 780 and 790 isnt it?

Nooo, far from it. 780i is 680i with a bridge chip for pci-e 2, whereas 790i is a whole new chipset. Unless you can water cool the board, dont look at 780i, they run whey to hot to get half descent clocks.

thats exactly what im doin mate, watercooling it,il be running a q6700 with a d-tek fuzion v2 cpu block and the EK-9800gx2 block,iv been considering SLI seeing il have the spare 9800gx2 and besides iv already purchased my ddr2 ram,i just need the mobo atm, plug and play really, waiting on my replacement board for my dfi lan party x48 atm...so we'l see what happens, more feedback would be great

Hmm, 790i is still the better choice, i mean if you can stretch I think it would be worth it.

if that was to be the case,id have to stretch my budget and source the money, something i aint bothered to do lol....we'll see what happens, thanks for the info.

asus striker II Extreme 790i SLI hows this mobo perform, and what ddr3 ram is best suited to go with a q6700,it'l all be running liquid cooling, anyone care to give some feedback...cheers.
