Should i cancel my 2080ti order for Vega VII

So I have my MSI 2080ti on pre order with supposedly 31st Jan release, After Vega VII announcement they claim to be slightly after than 2080. The 2080 is only 5-10fps slower than the 2080ti (I run 4K setup)
If the claims are true and they are slightly faster than 2080 then that would mean im paying £600-700 more for those couple of fps over a vega vii

Digital foundry did some comparisons of AMDs data to their testing data for other cards (After finding AMDs results for Vega64 matched their own so they must use a similar definition of 4K max), it's still estimations and obviously the gap will be smaller in DX12 games and ones that perform better generally on AMD cards but they do find the gap a bit wider than a few FPS to the 2080ti in the games they show, which they note are less favourable to AMD cards, so you can probably take as a worst case scenario (10-15fps at 4K max).

But of course, it's still very debatable whether the 10-15fps(Still a ~35% difference in some cases you could say) difference you find in some titles is worth double the price and that's ultimately up to you to decide(A crossfire/SLI setup is also technically an option though not a direct replacement with some issues of its own, particularly dwindling game support on newer APIs, and in this case the need for 500-600Ws of power for the GPU pair alone).

That is an interesting link in your post, somehow I had not seen it before. Looking at those numbers it looks more convincing to bite the bullet and get the 2080ti.

I would love crossfire/SLI, I had 980ti's in SLI but as you said the support was terrible so I told myself I wouldn't do it again

Because I was under the incorrect impression that the vega 7 would be somewhere between a 2080 and 2080ti for £600 less

Not a chance.

The Vega 7 is allegedly about on a par with the 2080 for around the same money. If you absolutely must have 2080Ti performance and cannot possibly cope with the drop down to a 2080 or Vega 7, stick with your pre-order.


I would strongly urge you not to even consider the Vega 7 until proper performance reviews are completed because at the moment we only have the manufacturers figures to go on regarding performance.
