Should I bother win an i5?

So in about a months time I will be upgrading my cpu. For the last few months I have been 100% sure I was going to go for the i5 3570k, But now I'm not to sure.

All I use my pc for is gaming and just general use (internet etc).

So should I just go for an i3 or should I go for the double the price 3570k?

Well techniqualy they are out just for notebooks whitch of course (the rumour mill is a place which isn't to be trusted) but definetly wait until the benchmarks and the prices are out and I'd recommend spending a few more pounds for a hd4000 version for better performance in video encoding

They were probably delayed to shift stocks on current i3s.

But yeh, wait for benchmarks. I think you may regret not getting the i5 though tbh :/

when sandy was out myself and a friend both raced competativly on F1 2011, i had a 2500k and he was using an i3 2120, even at stock, the performance difference just on loading screens and general smoothness were noticable, the rest of the rigs were exactly the same except for we both ran 560ti 448's from different manufacturers very identical though

Yeah that's the thing, also I don't usually go for something because it's cool or whatever but I would just love to be able to say 'Oh yeah I have an i5 oc'd to 4.5ghz' rather than 'I have an i3'

Not exactly, Even If I had the money I would never go for an i7 because I just do not need it

I think the i3 will struggle in certain gaming situations - depending on what you are doing with it and you can't exactly overclock it. i5 really is the best one to get imo.

yeah, the i3 is a lil demon, but can be easily challenged and over-run on complicated games and
appz. if thats not ok, then the i5 is the next platform, but the slight dollar amount between
locked and unlocked is closley silly to compare. stepping into hyper-threading is where the
cost can get out-a-hand.
buy for the bulk of the appz and down some options on complicated games and better for the wiser.
