Server for rendering/nas

IBM Intellistation A Pro Workstation​

2 x AMD Opteron 252 2.59GHz processors​

16GB RAM​

2x 75 GB hard disk​

NVIDIA Quatro FX graphics card​

Windows 7 Pro 64bit loaded (but no license)​

They are single core, so they really won't be good for rendering times. As a nas they will be sufficient, but a little power hungry.
 
Would I not be right in saying that that cpu is garbage
home servers don't need to have powerful cpus xD but may i say this pc sucks lol

It will get seriously upgraded once i get it, i will replace all the fans, paint it, install an extra hard drive, get a new psu and get vengence ram and better coolers. Also there is space for another graphics card so i think i will put a sapphire hd5450

nothingwrong with taking an old war horse and modding the twangers off it.

did it myself a while back with parts all sourced from carboot sales
 
You want to keep an eye on how much extra cash you put into this. The cart above is about £200 which can go some ways into buying a very decent modern platform. (is it even non-ecc ddr3 capable? I'm guessing ddr1)

These old servers can be handy for fileserving, firewalls, linux boxes, usually depending on what add-in cards you have for them. But for workhorses they're generally not worth it.

Just watch the expense.
