Hi all.
Okay got my ST and i very carefully put it together etc, got my barton running 2.5Ghz solid i think Mobo was holding it back, and way it was all fine lovely temps lovely system was over the moon about it all glad i baught the ST etc.
So all the fear had gone and i decided to try a 2800 for abit of fun, so i put it in turned it on and nothing.....no post, i scratched my head turned it off, tried again, so reset cmos etc, nothing.
Took it out tried the cpu on air nothing. tried it on another mobo, nothing. So i thought mmmm maybe it was just the chip or somthing, so i rma'ed it. I then put the bareton 2500+ back and the same thing.
The only thing i can think of that could cause a chip to die that quick is no contact between cooling head and chip, if so i thought the Mobo would have shut down, as they do when there is insufficiant contact (i know mine does asus a7n8x deluxe rev 2, and my new dfi ultra infinity nf2) so if that is what happened maybe the mobo uses a temp sensor or somthing to detect contact?if so maybe the cool air near the diode tricked it, is that possible?
i did look at the imprint of the paste and it seemed to have a solid connection.
i did notice that my barton the brown pcb seemed fadded slightly and near the metal lump that is the chip cover, ware contact is made, around the edge looked like some one had run a dark felt tip around half of it, i found that on both chips.
is it possible to put to much seal string on and still have the bolts fit all snug? i cant think of any thing else i am stummped and until i can figure out what i am or arent doing properly i am not blowing any more chips i cant afford it.
So pleaese help if you can, if i dont resolve this i am gonna try and sell it, and leave it to you guys and just stare longly at pics of yuor rig's
