Sempron vs A64 S754?

Question, how does a motherboard differentiate a sempron from an A64 on a socket 754 motherboard? the two processors handle memory clock settings differently dont they? Is the m/b by any chance preset for one vs the other or does it auto detect and set the settings to the appropriate stock? (I guess my biggest question would be, if a m/b was preset for a sempron but was housing an A64, could that be a potential cause for memory issues?)

Both the Sempron and Athlon work the same... The Semprons just have lower stock clocks and less L2 cache as far as I can tell.

oh? so the semprons also have the 1600-2000 mhz FSB?

edit: arg bloody hell, they do, shoulda checked that beforehand lol

both cpu's work in the same way, in fact in theory a s939 motherboard could probably run a s754 cpu if it would fit in the socket, as the memory controllers are on the cpu itself.

the motherboard simply uses the resoures given to it by the cpu if that makes sense.

alright so, just to make sure, if the motherboard used had the AMD Sempron logo on the box as opposed to the A64 logo, theres no tweaking that needs be done?
