Earlier this week, it emerged that Seagate were having some problems with some of their hard drives and faulty firmware being used on them. A firmware update was issued and subsequently pulled after more problems were found.

those "little" flaws that makes some consumers lose trust in big companys like that, and the worse part is that some of those are their better ones.

but at the other side of the coin, that happens with every company, afterall humans work on it

also i will take some care with barracuda hds then, since im planning to buy one (or i could go with maxtors since they never failed on me), i will have to check its model number afterall.

thanks for the news Stuart :D

I haven't touched a Seagate drive in years. Had such bad experiences with them and this just reinforces my decision tbh.

Wow, it's nice to see that some people think the same - I saw so many positive reviews but didn't believe it myself.

I just swapped to a Western Digital drive which is amazing :)

I'm running two 500GB 7200.11's and two 1.5TB 7200.11's and I've never had a problem with noise, heat or performance. All top notch.

Maxtor and WD on the other hand have been horrendous. Not to say about Hitachi's excuses for drives.

All manufacturer's drives will have a failure rate to some extent, although some more than others. At the end of the day it comes down to luck in most cases whether you receive a drive that will work flawlessly or a POS that should never have been shipped.

I have had other Seagate drives that lasted years, but with my last one breaking and a couple that my brother bought suffering from poor speeds, I decided it was time for a change.

Had a Seagate fail on me in less than a month last year, so I decided to go for a Samsung drive. Best decision I made.

my seagate is going strong 6 years i got a samsung drive last week died in 4 days worst thing i ever got :P

The only Seagate HD I have is the 200GB one in my laptop which is over a year old and still going strong. My 4 internal 1TB ones are Samsung and my external 1TB is WD though.

my seagates are still goin well (.10) touch wood but my next hdd will be a samsung F1 tb drive for storage and hopefully some form of high speed drive for my primary OS. Probably raptor or equivalent
