Scratchy noises at cold boot

First of all i didn't really know where to put this thread, but since it was (probably) caused by an oc i put it here. So i recently messed up an overclock which caused my OS to break and i re installed Windows. I clocked back down to the stable oc i had and since then whenever i cold start my rig (you know first time of the day) it makes weird scratchy noises. i ain't really sure where it comes from but the rpm of my cpu fan is rather low. i use a corsair h60. After 3-4 re boots it usually disappears or after 4-5 minutes of running the pc.

Maybe this is just too simple, but do you have a disc in any optical drive? :p

lol yes i did have the asus disk for the usb3 and lan drivers in it. But i had disks in there before and it didn't make any weird noises.

Maybe you could try booting without just to rule it out :)

You could also take off the side panel, stick your head in the case and boot it up to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from. It could be a lot of things, from a HDD to a broken fan, so it's best if you determine what component it is

My acer aspire hard drive (which im still using) makes the kind of sounds your describing. its a wd caviar blue. in my experience its worked perfectly fine for 3 years :)

It could be dust gathered around the fan causing the noise. Get a can of compressed air and remove any visible dust. You may need to remove the laptop casing.

yea its a desktop. its definitely not dust, i keep my precious pc clean ;) i considered the hdd as well, but since all my harddrives are working without any problems i dont think thats the problem. i've already checked the fans, non of them are damaged. i will try the optical drive and the pin point stuff though :P

It's probably the optical drive then.

/update/ it's not the optical drive. my fan speeds are normal. i checked them right after boot up and the cpu fan increases by about 100 rpm to 1000rpm and then when i put some load on to the cpu it rises to its usual 1800rpm. the scratching stops after about 2 minutes now.

Hmm I don't know by scratchy you mean what I think you mean. On two of my Gigabyte motherboards I always used to notice these scratchy noise at startup which I always thought it was caused by the ethernet as they were happening when downloading something at high speeds or installing usb/lan drivers. It could also be electrical noise coming from the CPU or VRM's till they heat up a bit since you mentioned "cold boot"... but all this, if I can interpret what you mean by scratchy noise.

I have a similar problem with my CPU cooler fan. it also makes scratchy noises. I took it appart several times, and i discovered that the problem was caused by a spring. I tried modifying that spring, the ball bearings were out of the question, the fan was new ( stock fan from any 125 W phenom or FX... with the copper base and heatpipes ). My PSU's fan makes this annoying grinding noise, whenever I boot andthe temps are low in the room, which stops aafter a few minutes, my graphic card's fan as well. So I don't think your overclock has anything to do with it. Might be just a fan issue, nothing major.
