i recently picked up the samsung U28DP590 and in games its amazing but desktop not so much everything is so difficult to read. So i started playing around with scaling.

Whats the difference between scaling and just flat out running a lower resolution on desktop applications? unless im miss understanding wouldn't 3840 x 2160 at 150% scaled be the same as running 2560 x 1440 or am i missing something? can someone fill me in?

if i have it scaled this high most games wont run they just bugger out. someone said to me on another forum you can turn the scaling off for games and applications? can someone enlighten me? is there away just to scale certain things? if i can just make my steam friends list bigger .as well as the task bar id be thrilled. currently running windows 7 someone else said upgrade to 8.1 . thoughts suggestions

Only thing I can think of is reduce your resolution with windows 7 as it only scales to 150% unlike Windows 8 which scales upto 200%.

Have you tried the manual scaling? By holding Ctrl and using the mouse scroll wheel to increase sizes, it works with most programs and even the desktop.

If you want other programs to remain at a high res then right click on them to access the properties and check the DPI scaling option.

150% scaling is fine on physical size. As im typing this i may just not be happy with the monitor overall. well guess im picking an asus pb27 for 1440P

Update:
returned for an asus pb278q
