Your correct, but under the circumstances it probably would have been the same even with a samsung battery. Nevertheless I stand by my words, stick to your manufacturer when it comes to batteries.
Thankfully nobody was hurt.
Phones don't just combust due to the lack of airflow. I've left my phone under sheets, in the bottom of my bag, and more, just like many other people. I'm gonna go ahead and say it was the battery. And yes, thankfully nobody was hurt!

I mean it wasn't just a low capacity battery on a normal 2G non smartphone. It was a freaking 4S which is a beast in terms of battery consumption and heat production....
On a sidenote... Nokia phones have a warning with big letters on both phone (where the battery goes) and the battery itself

lucky escape for the kid, if it was charging no wonder it was burning up, most phones get quite warm when charging, but under the pillow?? that's risky, i personally don't trust cheap Chinese batteries, but i have used them on occasion, it is about the only good thing about built in batteries, no chance of putting a crap one in,

My little cousin asked her dad for one of these smartphones, I think it was an HTC, He laughed his ass off and just said no ^_^

Tbf, I did get my first cellphone when I was like 11, my dad's old Siemens C55, but that was only cause I played outside so much and my parents never knew where I was so they could call me. Not gonna lie though, most of the times I wouldn't even realize that it was going off in my pocket cause I never looked at it. :lol:
Let's face it guys; Smartphones have become status symbols. If you don't have one in high school, you're going to get laughed at. If you don't have an expensive one, you won't be popular and apparently kids think that's the most important thing nowadays.
Even though they don't need the high-end hardware at all and, as proven greatly by this article, don't even know how the phones work and how to handle them (ie don't fking charge it under a pillow when you're sleeping).

If I ever have kids and they ask for a phone I'll buy them a basic thing, Phone and texts, Kids don't need phones like an S3 "Yes today in recess I think I'm going to check the stock levels of the DOW and NASDAQ"

I bought myself a phone when I was 16 so I could keep in touch with parents, That is the only reason a kid should get 1, Same reason as you really.
But all this high end phone buying to be popular is pathetic, I got made fun of because I didn't have a phone in school but i just smiled and said "Awww does diddims need to compensate with a big phone because hes got a peanut ? awwwwww it's ok"

Okay, maybe not a flag-ship phone, but tbh phone and texts is a little too basic. I think all kids of at least middle class families should have a phone with internet capabilities. Phoning and texting is becoming more and more obsolete as social networks become more popular.
