Safe Temperature for XFX 7950

The browser artifacts are quite common for most amd cards ever since the drivers were updated a while back. The artifacts are an odd beast. For example, I only get artifacts when using facebook and shockwave used to crash alot when I had my old i3...

To OP, I'd reccomend seeing if you can RMA it. If not I have a feeling that it just needs new thermal paste but better safe than sorry.

yeah i get artifacts on facebook too its that stupid chat bit that gets it

yeah :C. When I first saw it I panicked and thought my 'card was packing up xD. It took me about an hour to remember I'd updated the drivers.

Any chance of a screenie of gpu-z and the sensors tab also whilst under load... To put gpu under load with gpu-z just click on the question mark next to your bus interface..

Here's first gpu-z screeny:

Sensor Tab screeny (after running gpu-z render test for 5 mins):

Your fan profile is fucked mate, 42 percent @ 80c ???

Are you running trixx or afterburner to mess with fan speeds ? whats your fan settings in catalyst ?

1.250 v for 925 mhz is crazy high also...

are you up for some undervolting ??

I bet your memory is at 1.6v also, that can be brought down to 1.5v

Gonna write you a little guide if your up for following it to get you some good temps and lower voltages !!

Download this version of Trixx - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/85225460/TRIXX-4.4mod.zip

Unzip and put somewhere safe,

Create a shortcut to it on the desktop,

Make sure your running latest beta drivers,

Open trixx,

Bring your mvddc down to 1.5,

Bring your vddc down to 1100,

Board power to 20,

Apply and save as a profile 1

Go into fan control tab

and put fan on custom curve goning from 0 0% to 75c 100% ( you can tweak this to your personal preference after)

Hide Trix and open GPU-Z and do the same render test as before and post back results.

Aha, looks like it. Not messed with anything, must have just been incredibly bad stock settings. And thanks, that guide will be helpful and hopefully get the temps down to something reasonable!

One problem, I downloaded Trixx from your link, however there is no mvddc voltage in the Overclocking tab or any of the others, there is only GPU Clock, Memory Clock, vddc, and Board Power.

My 6950 xfx double d cooler is also not that good.
Idles at around 38-40 and load with 840 in the core is around 70-83 depending on the game.

Without editing any of the voltages, I managed to get Bioshock down to about a reasonable 74'ish degrees, and pretty much every other game under 70 with an improved fan profile. Fan speed was the first thing I should have checked, /facepalm

Thanks for the help though, everything's running at decent temps now :D

Strange, you sure your using the the modded trixx that i posted ?

Maybe you have different vrm controller ?

Edit ---

You have same PCB as mine so I dont understand why you dont have possibilty to change mvddc ?

Your Hynix memory is rated for 1.5v @ 1575mhz speeds..

If you look in hwinfo64 you should see what your memory voltage is running at -

i have the same card as u according to gpu z and also getting high temps in demanding games wit low fan speed. i guess there is a bios glitch or something. anyway i have created a fan profile in afterburner and now in crysis 3 get temps under 80. so really i am glad that i am not the one with the same card)
