haveing problems installing a seagate 200gb S-ATA on a Asus M2N-MX

the drive shows up in the bios under S-ATA1 but when i try to install windows onto it windows cant see the drive

Have tryed different sata cables

checked the bios for any options but realy i dont have a clue:rolleyes:

Not sure if it would make any difference but try changing the jumper on the HDD to 300GB/s or 150GB/s - depending on what it is on atm

I`d still think along the lines of what nathan is saying and get u`r hands on the mobo drivers for the SATA.

Some mobos have their drivers spashed with RAID allover them, and users think `well I`m not gonna raid so I won`t need em`- but the normal SATA drivers are bundled in there also. Maybe they could be clearer.

I don`t know what the M2N-MX equiv looks like on the drivers side.

I remember someone I know having a similar problem, can't remember the chipset tho :(

Have you installed windows to a SATA drive on that system before with no problems?

I know some chipsets need a slipstreamed disk with the drivers or you can press a key (f6?) and insert a floppy with the drivers.

Have you tried enabling (or disabling) the RAID controller and booting the installer?

also the chipset drivers - http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_430_410_winxp32_8.22

no this i a new system

i will try installing the raid drivers..

didnt work

chipset is nforce 430/geforce6100

the mb came with a disk with freedos on it

but not allot else that can be used outside windows

On some systems once you enable RAID it initialises a sort of driver so the windows install disk doesn't need any drivers.

How did you install the RAID drivers without windows installed?? or did you push F6 and select the driver location on the installer?

Out of interest is the CD you're using a SP2+ slipstream or a pre-SP2 or even pre-SP1 one?

One of the Game Zero lads had this trouble a while ago. You need to find the SATA setting in the bios and somewhere it will have somthing along the lines of 'SATA Mode:'

Under that the choices of IDE, RAID and often a 3rd or 4th. Make sure its set to IDE mode.

Hope that helps...

tryed f6 that didnt worked booted from the motherboard disk gave me the option to install raid did that but still the same thing

trying enableing raid in the bios

when you say didnt work, did you get any error messages etc. Could you explain a little more. Ta

it compleated the install but the drive still didnt show in windows

the settigns i have are

LBA Mode :

Block(multi-Sector Transfer):

PIO Mode:

DMA Mode:

Smart Monitoring:

32 Bit Data Transfer:

those are the only options for sata

trying pio as 0

guessing thats in the bios. You shouldnt need to alter any of those settings.

Are you doing the following.

Boot from the windows xp cd,

when you see a message like "to install 3rd party raid drivers, press f6 now"

press f6 :p

You will need the sata/raid drivers on a floppy disk, make sure it is inserted

hit enter at this screen, it should provide you with a list of available drivers that are on the floppy. Select the correct one by hitting enter.

Cant remember whats button it is to continue with the installation of windows, but it should say.

are you doing something along the lines of above?

U can use a pen drive or cd aslong as u`r mobo likes it.

When I mentioned installing the drivers, do it from windo$e.
