Ryzen Ram on X299

It should work ok if you want to make extra sure just go to your board manufacturer's web site and see if it's on the QVL list and if so you'll deffo be right, but usually XMP withh probably just pick it up fine

Never bought a Ram kit that was on MB QVL in my life to be honest and had no issues, I was just a bit worried about this kit as G.Skill explicitly state made for Ryzen and QVL on Ram Product page shows Threadripper boards only.


I dont think my server MB (Dell 5820) has ability to set XMP so it will be running at stock CPU Spec which is I think 2666mhz.

Mate I've seen ram that's meant for Intel in Ryzen systems working just fine, it generally just means it's been tested to work with Intel/Ryzen to give people piece of mind, I think you should be ok and if it doesn't well I'm sure your supplier will swap it for compatible ram if needs be.
 
There is no such thing as Ryzen or Intel RAM.

There is cheaper RAM that will not work with AMD properly, but that isn't because it's Intel RAM it's because Ryzen is fussy. Well, what I mean is, gen 1 Ryzen is fussy. Very, very fussy. And this is 2933 RAM, which was close to the max speed of gen 1 Ryzen, so it is probably an older model that was verified to work with AMD.

Flare X was one of the early RAM kits that was guaranteed to work on AMD. Gskill were really the first company to do that tbh.

Oh they used to do that crap all the time dude. SLi approved with the logo on, Crossfire X approved ETC.

Any PSU with enough amps and the right connectors would work FFS. So it was kinda funny, because they were saying "OK look we've put out a decent PSU you can use more than one GPU on".

Now that you mention it I do remember them slapping sli badges on power supplies.

That's a good one. No idea tbh. I know they did like, Nvidia and ATI cases but they were brand specific rather than touting support for something.

Lots of VM's , I want to pass my Cisco CCIE certification this year (already got the CCNA & CCNP certifications), and once I have got them out of the way I will use it as a storage server with freenas or something like that.
