Not sure how many of you Steam gamers are aware of this title, but there's an early-access title out by the name of Rust by FacePunch Studios.

Intro Video/Teaser

FacePunch, if you don't know, are founded by Garry Newman, who you may recognise as the creator of Garry's Mod.

It's aiming to be an open-world, survival multiplayer game, which isn't particularly surprising given that this genre has been exploding lately (Think DayZ, Nether, etc). However, having tested multiple alpha games in the same genre, I'll confidently say I think Rust has the most potential so far. DayZ is far too buggy, even for an early-alpha, and Nether is just a little bare/content starved so far.

So, if you want an early access survival game to sink some hours into, this one looks fantastic so far! It takes the same survival/multiplayer features that other titles are using as it's core, but also actively includes more interesting concepts such as building (think building your own little shack to defend and store the stuff you find/create/steal.)

I have it and regret buying it. Not recommended unless you've played it first. It really needs a demo/trial period as its the kind of game where you love it or hate it.

At the moment I think it lacks content as well. Not worth the price. IF it was cheaper then maybe it would be worth it as an investment but it has a long way to go... The same goes for all the zombie games that are early access on steam as well. DayZ is probably the better value for money although 7 days to die is quite good although less complete then it really should be for the price.

I am considering getting this game but I have no funds at the moment. I also looked at 7 Days to Die but that looks like an HD version of Minecraft with Zombies.

I will look at more youtube videos of it and most likely get it when I get paid. I play DayZ a lot lately and I am finding it really addictive.

I think the genre as a whole isn't for everyone. And to be honest, I'd still stick with the Day Z mod for ARMA II for the most complete survival experience so far, even with all it's flaws. Still, I think Rust definitely has the potential to surpass it.

I don't like games like this or DayZ but it does look it can be fun at times.
I've watched a couple of Youtube vids on it from FRANKIEonPCin180p, including one where he gets banned by madmin :D

Ah, this is the video that sold me on it!

how creative...

Interesting that people keep saying this. New football games aren't creative, new racing games aren't creative, neither are shooters, MMOs, or MOBAs.

Until someone does it right, I don't see the problem with new teams coming along to try their spin on the genre. No one has made a complete, working, survival multiplayer game yet that is up to gaming standards. More people trying is more competition and more options, and that can only benefit the gamers.

I'm definitely intrigued by games like Rust and really want to play DayZ, but I'm not paying to be an alpha or beta tester. I really don't like this whole early access concept where you literally pay to help them test a game out with no guarantee that the game will even launch.

don't play sports games, mmos, mobas or new shooters, gotta admit that racers are very similar but i don't buy a whole lot of those either. hypocrite doesn't apply to me, i don't like the uncreative junk devs release.
