Running out of memory win7

Hi. Both me and a friend have 8gb 1600mhz ddr3 in our systems. Both use windows 7. And both suddenly have a problem of nearing 100% usage. For me this is causing glitching in some games making it very frustrating. Normally with nothing running except cod ghosts and Skype running I sit at around 85% usage. Very so often it rises causing my game to freeze momentarily. Usually ending up in me being shot. Other that buying more ram is ther anything I can do to help? Have already turned off super fetch.

Sometimes browsers can have a bug and suck up a TON of memory. Firefox was really bad about that a while back. Check your resource monitor in the task manager and find out what is using the most memory. Might be some malware or something. May be able to fix it with a restore point.

ok, got home from work this morning, and opened resource mon etc. and of course now im looking closer it was holding at about 40% ish usage. opened and had a couple of rounds of cod, and it stayed under 60% used... cod taking about 3gb when in a map.
as for the browser thing. when i game i always try to remember to close my windows, as i have a bit of a habit of being a tab whore!!
and for antivirus etc, i have it scheduled to do a full system deep scan including rootkits etc daily. (just to clarify. a scan was not taking place at the times of this problem)

chrome, but like i said, before i run a game i usualy close me tabs

I wonder if Chrome doesn't shut itself down properly? Next time this happens grab a screenshot of your tasks/processes just incase someone spots something that would explain the issue :D. I'm shocked that you get that high memory usage normally as well tbh.
-edit- also which AV do you use and which version is it on?

Avg free. I am yet to be convinced that a paid for av is any different. PC is off now so don't know what version it is. However it was updated this week. So I would guess that whatever the latest version is. Over the next few days I will make a conscious effort to monitor it. And will report back when I get more info.

Do you have spotify installed and running? I've noticed that since their last update it was using a ridiculous amount of memory to the point where I'm sure it was leaking/fragmenting memory.

ok, just got my lazy arse outa bed, booted up and got this.
yes spotify is running but that doesnt take up 4 gb...

Yeah but look at all those goddamn spotify helper processes.

I know that still doesn't add up to 4GB but I can't help thing there isn't supposed to be that many. I've only had memory issues since it updated to it's new theme and then I noticed all these which I don't recall.
