Rubber-U

Hey guys,

I've been looking around for some proper rubber-U for a while now.
Does anyone know a company in or close to The Netherlands who sells this stuff?

I've got some on my NZXT Phantom now but it's ugly as sh*t and I'd love some proper looking stuff!

Last time I bought it @ highflow.nl but the supplied rubber was veeeery ugly, probly shouldn't have bought the flat version though..

Looks good but do they ship to The Netherlands? at a not to high price aswell..
it-service.be asks €10 for shipping to the netherlands which is a little much if you ask me

Also have a question on the same subject... The specialtech rubber says maximum thickness should be 1.5mm on the panel while the only acrylic they sell is 3mm thick... Would that work out or would it look really ugly?

Not too sure why you'd be putting U-channel on the acrylic?

Might be missing the point, but as the acrylic should be hidden on the inside, it shouldn't really need covering up.
It's normally used for the metal side panel after cutting to save on filing.

Thanks for the quick reply.. Well.. The reason i would like to use it on the acrylic is because i want to do a side panel mod on my 500r which as everyone knows has lips on the inside to hold the mesh in place.. My idea is to cover the acrylic with u channel and then stick it on the lips... That.. In theory would hide the lips from being visible and no cutting would be necessary ... Also will keep the inside of the panel free from double sided tape and the window could be removed if needed in the future...

Don't know if its actually doable but seems quite possible it would do the job

Sorry mate didnt actually figured out your plan. I think putting u-channel on a thicker edge then it was initially designed for will not work properly.

So try to find a model that suits thicker panels.

Like this for example.

Or this.

That seems like something that would work..

Ill try and make it clearer.. i want to make a window for my 500r without cutting the lips on the inside that hold the mesh panel in place.

Also, i would like to hide those lips by any way possible so the panel looks as clean as possible. so i thought that maybe by reversing the u channel and putting it around the acrylic instead of around the metal, and then glue the acrylic panel on the lips with the u channel on.. it would hide both the lips and would also look clean.

I am not sure of course if this would work but it seems reasonable enough

I cant really help because i dont know what the 500R side panel looks like from the inside.

Take a Pic maybe we can help you then.

You are right sorry, this is the picture hope it helps...You can see the lips in the red boxes.. those are the ones i do not want to cut.. now picture an acrylic panel cut to the shape of the mesh and a u channel around it.. then.. the panel glued on to the lips and the result.. if what im thinking is good enough a very clean look from the outside of the case..

Couldnt you just cut them off, then file untill you get a clean result, put u'channel on the entire cut-out and come from inside with the acrylic and double sided tape.

Looks like there is enough space to tape it down.

Well i could cut them off, only reason i dont want to do it is beacuse i want the acrylic sitting flush with the rest of the panel and not looking like its on the inside of the case (because cutting the edges, adding u channel and then sticking the window on the back would make it look like its on the inside..

Basically i want it to look like these images :

and seem to be having the same problem with this guy in this thread :

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?17136-Corsair-500r-Side-Panel-Window

who ended up masking the acrylic and painting it.

If you want to have the window sitting flush with the panel, it would mean putting the window on from the outside.
So you need to measure the gap between the lips and the outside of the panel to give you the thickness of your acrylic sheet.
Then make yourself a stencil of the cut out (to get the round edges) or present it on directly on the acrylic sheet and trace.
Tape the stencil on your acrylic (if you made one), cut it, sand the cut for a nice clean finish.
An for hiding the lips you could paint the acrylic on lets say on 1cm of width. (black frame around the acrylic)
And then glue or tape it on the lips.

Yep... that seems to me the best possible way to get a clean look for it.

The only thing im worried about is getting the spray paint looking good.

Thanks for all the help btw.. much appreciated :D

Just take your time when masking the acrylic sheet. Also sand the area that will be painted to get a good adhesion, i'm not a painter but i would use 600grid . 2 or 3 coats should be enough, be sure to paint in a well ventilated and dust free area (for a good finish and your health!)

Thanks alot, will follow the tips and when possible will be uploading a proper comprehensive project log for everyone to see the process step by step, as by searching for one it has come to my attention that there is none atm
