Hi I'm looking for some advice, recently I decided to change my Evga 1080 supeclocked 2 for an Msi 2070 gaming Z. All was fine for a week until it started with the artifact issue, so I returned it to where I bought it and replaced it with an Evga rtx 2070 xc ultra. Now this has started with the same issue! I'm at a loss, is the micron memory issue a lottery or is there a manufacturer that can be trusted not to manifest this issue? I'm beginning to think that i'll either stick with my 1080 or wait to see what the red team will offer with the navi iteration of card. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

thanks for the input if there really is no "safe"manufacturer then its looking like I will stick with my 1080. Tbh I like the card but was interested in the 20 series cards and i'm sucker for new shiny things! the visual fidelity on my 1440p monitor was great but I dont think the issues are worth the hassle, 2 cards in a month is looking like my limit. I've never had to rma a card before this and now its looking like 2 in a month

I’m personally sticking with my 1080 Ti Strix, it’s more than capable of running todays games at 1440p. And as much as I love shiny new things as well, paying the amount which is asked for, for the 20 series, for only a 20-30% perfomance increase? That’s just insane and not worth it in my opinion.

Mate of mine bought his son a 2070 and himself a 2080 Ti, Both developed artifacting issues with days of eachother, As Alien said it's a memory issue, Stick with your 1080 for at least another generation until GDDR6 matures.

GDDR6 is demonstrably fine, the actual RMA numbers on the cards are mostly nothing unusual for GPUs. Looking at one of the largest retailers we have here, RTX cards have ~2-4% RMA rate, though strangly the more expensive Asus models like strix have >10%.
I don't see a point going 1080, even 2060 performs comprably in most Dx12/Vulkan titles. If you're unlucky and it breaks, you can RMA. Exact same applies to 1080.

There are nowhere near as many reports of failing RTX series graphics cards as there were at launch. It seems that the bugs have been resolved for the most part. It is not uncommon for early releases of products to have issues.
As for GDDR6, things have undoubtedly matured a lot in the past year. It is also possible that faster GDDR6 memory will be available before too long, such as the long-awaited 16Gbps modules.
