Router Brands - Who's hot?

What is so much better about it?

Nothing really, the only difference is that you don't need to do any of the coding with DD Wrt, it's pretty much done already.

It's based on Open WRT (was based on Sveasoft's Alchemy, until they their own framework for Bufallo etc).

Something like the Netgear WGT 634U would be a great one to get open source on, as it has a serial console input, a USB 2.0 storage input, a USB console input (iirc), a full speed wan port and switch. It also has a 200mhz broadcom processor, so can run stuff like WRT, also has a mpci slot, so you can upgrade the wireless, then add new drivers. Best of all, it was a complete flop, due to shoddy NG firmware, so would be silly cheap ;).

Anyone know if any of the distro's out there have enough of a linux kernel in tact to properly run Super Pi? I tried on mine but no go :(

Do you have it compiled for the ARM architecture?

Nope, it's the basic x86 compilation. I guess that would probably be why it doesn't run, rofl. You have any coding experience, possible to make a SPI that will run on ARM?

No I don't, but I can tell you that something compiled for x86 won't run on ARM, it will need to be compiled for ARM, other than that it should work if there is enough ram.

Hrmmmm, I'm sure theres someone out there that could code Super Pi for ARM. Super Pi is a simple program, unfortunately I lack the programming knowledge to do it myself :*(.

Hell it could probably just be ported instead of an entire rewrite, whatcha think?

It may be as simple as a recompile, I will take a quick look into it. I discovered something interesting, DD-WRT is just a re-skin of X-WRT, check the attachment.

X-WRT is a web interface for OpenWRT, and that is what DD-WRT uses.
X-WRT is an extension of the OpenWRT interface (albeit re-written). DD-WRT is also an extension of the OpenWRT interface. As far as I know, DD-WRT does not use the X-WRT interface.

anyone know if the d-link gamerlounge 4300 is any good?

i like the idea of it having gigabit ethernet so i wouldn't need a separate switch

It's probably cheaper, and better for upgradability to get a separate gigabit switch.

well have had no problems with a netgear router though we have had problems with a belkin router overheating all the time

Has anyone tried the Draytek Vigors?

Thinkin of one for home, would be a hell of a lot more stable than the Belkin one I've got atm :(
