Buffalo w/DD-WRT FTW!

THIS MAN SPEAKS THE TRUTH!!!

And just so everyone is aware keep your eye on router threads in the near future because with the help of the boys at Alphacool and OC3D's support I'm doing quite the awesome project involving a Buffalo :)

OMG FRAG, you're gonna OC our router and watercool it with one of their uber-restrictive blocks that are JUST good enough for vmodded Broadcom chips @ 250Mhz?!!?

BUAHAHAHAH! :D :D :D

LMAO, man you're kidding right? Wow.

Hey, OT, download and flash with the newest beta v23. It's WAY BETTER IMO.

SP3^

A little preview of what we're talkin bout, to everyone. w00t.

Everyone go to Circuit City & pick one of these bad boys up! Then come home, and flash it with DD-WRT!!!!

And yes, the snowflakes animate ;). (fall)

Pretty cool Nick, I think I'll check SP3 out in a few mins :) Thx for the heads up.

And yes, I really am going to WC this baby :D

I've had both my modem & router in a cardboard box with a fan in it for a while to keep them cool. I havn't OC'ed yet though.

I might put all the network hardware in this old case, install some case fans, etc. Run the wires out where the IO plate is. Maybe I can even get an MATX Mobo & CPU, and some HDD's. Get a server goin.

I just got a Linksys WRT54GL and put OpenWRT on it, and love it so many awesome features. What is the point of overclocking guys, I have heard it can cause all sorts of problems.

1) Because you can.

2) Because you can increase the load it can take connection wise when running Bit Torrent (while maintaining speed, ie not slowing down.

3) Because it can increase QoS reliability/speed

Mehh more power to you then lol. For bittorrents I jsut limit my dl to 512kb my itnernet still blazes, barely get over 512 anyways when dlin.

2. I can get full speed on a £20 safecom router, seems a little pointless to me :p. Might even make the router crash more (as the slow down is due to the cpu getting too hot), that is unless you stick a big hsf on it ;).

3. QoS doesn't really do anything useful in WRT, using a linux box as a router is a better option, something like IP Cop or Clark Connect would do the job. :)

Yeah most QoS is busted in DD-WRT but the next release (v24) is going to fix it. Theres already a beta v24 out so we'll see soon :)

what is openwrt, just a different firmware for the router. May have to find a cheap router of ebay and have a play. can anyone shed more light on this?

OpenWRT is a Linux based firmware for wireless routers, it has more features and more customization options.

TBH I don't really know, but after a bit of research everyone and their mama is switchin from OpenWRT to DD-WRT :) Must mean something kicks major asstastics.
